Took an FSA race crown off my RS Pike fork to put on my new Fox 36s and its loose!? Anyone else had this happen? Has it stretched? I assume a new one will fit!?
Cheers
"crown race"
Is it split? If so the it shouldnt' matter. If not, then get a new one.
Old fork 1.5", new fork 1 1/8"?
Crazy but possible...
then get a new one.
But would one come with a new headset?
Both forks 1 1/8th no split, solid ring...I was concerned a new one may not fit but guess that would be silly.
Yes you should get a new one with a new headset.
Are you quite sure the race is as far down as it can go?
Some forks I've found are pretty loose until about the last 5mm where it flares slightly and tightens up.
Yeah all the way down, I can get a new one for £4 from UK bike store or Crc. Don't want to bother if it was unlikely to fit though would have got a new headset but don't want to spend £££ if I don't need too.
You'll need a new one. They do sometimes get a hairline 'split' if you have 'tapped it off' rather than use a crown race puller. This would account for the looseness.
Cheers, sound like I can have confidence in a new one, any technique to outing one on? Any special tool needed?
A tube with a slightly larger diameter is ideal, but as long as you are not completely devoid of any sympathy for your tools and components you can work it down gently with a wide bladed screwdriver and mallet, working evenly around.
