Daft name, stunning bike.

It sure is pretty. I'm no weight weenie when it comes to bikes but I was surprised to see that the weight is 3.6kg for a medium frame without the shock.
i was poised to make a purchase, but it just doesnt tick all the correct boxes for me to replace my norco optic. Great shame.
But defo a simple and good looking bike.
I saw that. It's not light for sure. Our guide at Switchbacks in Malaga (this time last year, sob!) has the Madonna and absolutely loved it. He was a brilliant rider tho, so not sure how much was the bike.
Maybe it's the four bar/external cabling/gusset but it reminds me of a modern take on the original Turner 5-Spot.
The full builds look good value except a) not available for a few months and b) that's before 14% import tax. I'm not going to mention the B word 😉
I reckon it'd build to 32lbs ish. Prob no heavier than my 2017 smuggler!

I have my doubts, my not full weenie but close highlander is about that, and the frame is nearly 2lbs lighter. Maybe if you put daft tyres on or went full Dangerholm...
That is a very nice looking bike.
It looks lovely, stunning actually but think I'd want something a little longer and slacker. It's longer travel but less reach and steeper head angle than my FlareMAX.

That and the straight tubes, I really like it. Refreshing lack of styling fluff and it looks far better for it. Not everything needs to continually 'develop'.
Whats the main pivot bearing? looks huge.
Might make it amazingly stiff. Might have other issues I can't think of...
would be on my list of I magically came into 7k for a bike at the end of the month... Tick all the boxes for me...
I have my doubts,
I was working off my RipMo which is 1.5lbs ish lighter with lyriks, 2.6 tyres, etc. Which I had down at 30.5 lbs. Maybe I had some 'shop scales' when I weighed it 🙂
I wouldn't want any slacker. Or longer. The geo on that looks good for all day riding. Even if the weight possibly doesn't!
Defo function over form. But they got the form right as well. And I do like that raw.
It looks like a very nice trail bike. It may well be a bit livelier than the Madonna but it ain't no jibbing machine. Definitely should have had a more sensible name.
Aren't they made by the same people Privateer use, another frame thats no featherweight.
It looks good but I don't understand why, considering it's basically a burly trail bike, it's so heavy and the bottle cage mounts are in a place that means you'll only be able to carry a small bottle and not a trail ride's worth of drink.

Hightower alloy is 4.4kg with shock, Don't think the weight is all that high, even for a brand that prioritise duraility and huge bearings

Why do you want to move from the Optic? Anything you don't like, or just fancy a change?
If I hadn’t just ordered a Hugene I’d be tempted, similar geometry but heavier. The Hugene probably pedals better but less durable l guess.
I would have bought an Optic If they were in stock.
Those hugene's look good as well. I was going to get the first gen one, but they had zero stock. Which back then wasn't quite so usual..
Almost identical geometry to a Banshee Prime - not sure how that’s considered a jibbing bike but I’m sure it rides well!

Maybe, but thats still good as damn it 8lbs for a frame without a shock. Add another c. 350 - 400 grams for an inline, or more likely 600 to 700 grams for a piggy back air shock. Build that with aggro trail parts and you'll be spending a lot of cash to get it under 34lbs IMO.
They make some lovely looking bikes but I can’t understand / justify the price difference between Raaw’s pricing and Privateer when it’s common knowledge they’re out of the same factory?!
Looks nice. If I was in the market for a new bike I’d get a friend in France to order it for me.
Although I’d probably go for the Privateer 141 if I had to choose.
One of the best pieces of advice I read from a bike journo was ‘Never weigh your bike’, Andrew Major from NSMB/Meat Engines.
Just put on sensible parts to suit your body weight, area and style/skill level and enjoy it.
Trying to be a weight weenie never improved my love for biking, it just cost me more in light parts and replacement lenses for broken light parts.

See also pretty much every other brand sharing a factory. Privateer is using a lot of generic parts, Raaw much less so - look at the giant pivot bearing, for one. And marketing, I guess.

So... lighter than an alu Hightower, even with the piggyback. Lighter than the Banshee Prime.
It's basically the same weight or less than similar bikes in the same class. Not sure why tis bike in particular is singled out as heavy. Bikes in general have gotten bigger, burlier and 29erier over the years.
@nedrapier - unfortunately my 2020 Optic frame broke (nothing major, just the main pivot sleeve had become dis-bonded from the frame, not enough glue i suspect), so i am currently waiting on a warranty replacement. This has been delayed due to Covid etc, so i wont see it until middle of March. On top of that the only colour available is the metallic orange. Which whilst isn't a horrible colour, its not totally up my street.
Therefore it was a case of just wanting a bike to ride asap and fancying something new.
Since the release of the Jibb i have realised its not quite what i want (reach numbers, head tube angle, weight etc) and i still absolutely love my Optic (by far the best bike i have owned), so am back to holding tight for my warranty replacement. And if i cant get on with the colour, i will use it for this year then maybe treat myself to a respray!

Put them side by side, and the difference is pretty obvious. The Privateer looks cheap & isn’t what I would call well finished & the only two people I know who have had one have burnt through rear shocks because their frames arnt straight.
As a former Madonna owner, it looks good to me, not sure I would swap my Stumpy out for one though.

I'd much prefer the Optic as a trail bike, or the Hugene mentioned above.
This looks like a great frame, especially if it's someone's only bike, but a bit overbuilt for what I want and as part of a "quiver".
Prob no heavier than my 2017 smuggler!
It'd be half a kilo heavier, give or take, I reckon.
I get some of my loudspeaker drivers made in factories that make far cheaper and lower performance speakers that may appear similar to the layperson. So something being made in the same factory as something else does not mean they’re comparable in quality.
This Jibb is 3.6kg without shock. A Banshee Prime is 3.7kg with shock - the Banshee is definitely lighter.
Bikes in general have gotten bigger, burlier and 29erier over the years.
Yeah. Not really singling the Jibb out, just grappling what 'heavy' means these days.
A 34lb bike is pretty sluggish and muted on any climb though, even if they can do it. I still want a bike that can climb technical terrain instead of just winching up fireroads, which increasingly seems to be the benchmark for a bike that can climb these days.
