So, 51 Passat Estate with my only key locked in the boot, which I can see smiling at me. No chance of wire coat hangers here so my only options are, brick through the window (not an option) wait till Monday & get a spare key from the dealer or try the RAC who turned up at 19.45 which was an hour before they said they would. 10 minutes later I had the key in my hand with the doors unlocked, no damage & no plastic strapping used.
Clever as eggs but I guess the car thieves would know what to do. (even though I asked about 10 cat C prisoners what the best way was to break into my own car & they all said 'smash a window!')
Happy me.

2 plastic wedges, 2 inflatable air bags & some electric.
Gradually wedge the drivers door open at the top, just enough to get a long piece of steel rod far enough down to the rear window button, apply electric to the reversing light switch underneath which the power somehow gets to the window button, press button, window comes down, hook key out of boot with the hooky end of the steel rod.
How much? Think I pay £10 a month on a bank a/c which includes European conkout cover & worldwide travel insurance. (& mobile phone & some kind of house key cover also)

Just to balance the argument up, the one time I needed them in 3 years they refused to rescue me because of a computer error that said my membership had expired. I had to drive from Essex to Cheshire with a front brake disc split from centre to edge. Because of this I wouldn't give them the steam off my piss.

Looked the keys in a transit once, the AA man came out, pulled the bonnet realease from lying under the van, this exposed the engine bay, a neat rubber bung was removed from the bulkhead,he also removed the pipe for the drivers side air vent, pushed a piece of strong coat hanger wire through the hole and through the air vent and pushed back the snib on the lock so easy.

RAC were brilliant for us when I locked the key in the back of our Audi. Surprisingly easy to do as if you only turn the key once when it;s in the door, as soon as the boot lid is shut it locks again. Which I found too late...
