When creating a segment - will it automatically register for riding it both ways? Or if you want both ways do you actually have to create the segment twice, one way then the other? Ta.

Pretty sure you need to create an "up" segment and a "down" segment

They are uni-directional i.e. work one-way only.

So you mean they are directional... uni-directional in that context would be works in all directions surely, not working in one direction as you're meaning.

Omnidirectional would refer to all directions, unidirectional means 1 direction. In the same way unicycle means a cycle with 1 wheel.

nope, uni-direction means 'in one direction only'... what you describe is omni-directional, or perhaps more accurately bi-directional.

Hmmm, yes, I didn't think that through.

I still maintain that "directional" would have made more sense though, and wouldn't have needed the clarification!
