I'm finally getting round to going tubeless with a set of Flows I bought last year. They came with a fabric rim tape (see photo below). My question is: should I remove this before fitting yellow tape, just fit yellow tape over the top or even not bother with the yellow tape at all? I will be using tubeless ready (i.e. non-UST) High Rollers and normal Stans sealant if that makes any difference.

if its of any use, I didn't remove the green fabric and installed the yellow tape over it - be under no illusion that I know what im doing though 🙂

FWIW, my tyres went up ok and have not had a problem since...

+1 For removing the rather nice green fabric.

Seems a waste but there you go.

If only Hope would put a layer of yellow tape on...

Oh! Once the Green tape is removed, get some fine emery to the surface to remove any sharp edges around the spoke holes.

I left the green cloth tape on but the tyres (Schwalbe Dirty Dans) are a very tight fit and have damaged the tape. Plan to remove it and replace it with yellow tape next tyre change.

Remove the cloth tape! The yellow tape is there to seal your spoke holes - it can't do this very well if it's just stuck down on the very edges, it needs to be stuck through 100% of its width. There's a really good video on the Stan's site of how to do this properly.

Ta all, yellow tape all fitted as per the video and currently bedding in with some tubes pumped up hard. Won't have time to inflate tubelessly until the weekend so will have to wait until then for the moment of truth...

You don't need specific UST / LUST tyres on a Stan's rim, in fact these add weight you don't really need (unless you habitually tear sidewalls). You can use most steel or folding bead tyres, although some are better for tubeless use than others. If you want to keep it simple - pick the Maxxis tyre you like the look of and buy the folding bead version of that. Maxxis generally go up a treat and seal really well.
