I'm assuming a 100mm airshaft will physically be shorter than a 120 mm one.

Have been sent one exactly the same length as the one in my fork. Thought I'd better check before I have a hissy fit.

Yes....but the same airshaft may give one travel for one fork and different travel in another. Pike 27.5 or 29 or lyrik all give potentially different travel from the same airshaft.  What exactly did you buy?

Sounds like they’ve sold you a 120 then, what a PITA. Is the travel not printed on the shaft?
