Is there a good quick release MTB pedal with a decent size platform? (10cmx10cm ish). Wellgo have one but seems unavailable and a tad unreliable. Putting an xl bike in a saloon is bad enough having to take the wheels off but taking the pedals off every time is a pain.

Pedal covers has got to be better than removing them all the time?

E.g.
Nox Sox Pedal Covers - Large https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07F8YYQJ5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_J2CDGMM5BT5KJVTR47MH?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

The pedals need to be taken off. The car is a 330e so the boot floor is higher and the bike won't fit in with the pedals on.

DezB Have you tried these pedals? They look ok but zero reviews.

Sorry, no. Was just intrigued as to how QR pedals would work and found those. Never had the need tbh. (I'd trade the beemer in for a Mondeo if I had the same issue)

I'd miss the BM I think. I'll have a look around for some reviews on those pedals. Cheers for the help.

I never knew these were a thing.

But then other than the front wheel I can't think of a component that's easier to remove quickly from a bike. I'd definitely put up with the 2 minutes it takes to remove pedals rather than compromise my main contact point with the bike.

Just fit some Octalink cranks. They'll fall off without you needing to do anything.

Those look awful! QR would only be acheived by either beefing up the cranks and pedals, or by compromising on shaft integrity, as Rich rightly says, by doing such things on one of your two main contact points, sod that.

Oh, and what Dez sez, car is not fit.

As above, I have more bikes than pairs of pedals and it takes no time to remove/fit (especially if you are doing it regularly), and I have no extra worries about them breaking/being shit.

Get a van then you dont have to take anything off the bike in and out in a flash.

the 2 minutes it takes to remove pedals

It's the preceding ten minutes of working out from first principles which one unscrews clockwise that makes my ears bleed every time.

Company car so no option at the moment. Could have got an estate but it was a 12 week wait.

😀 😀

I've stopped thinking about it in terms of left or right hand thread. I've got a really simple way of remembering - Wheels down, Crank forward, Allen key forward, pull it "up" to loosen.

Pedal forward
hex key pointing back on inboard side
push down
watch yer knuckles

Could have got an estate but it was a 12 week wait.

Patience is indeed a virtue.

Takes seconds to remove a pedal tbh. Especially if it's got a hex in the end like most do these days. Crank arm pointing forwards, P-handled allen key into pedal pointing forwards, rotate crank "up" til p-handle bumps against downtube, rotate allen key towards downtube.

Patience is indeed a virtue but company car tax is a bitch. The difference between a 320i and 330e was getting silly. Same engine. One with a duracell battery and a damn site less tax.

Pedals to Mondeo love to orientation of threads to car tax on one page. Nice.

When its 2 mins with an allen key (get a brightly coloured one to live in the car) versus a crap pedal that just so happens to be quickly removable, there's only really one winner for me

+1 just remove the pedals. If you can't remember which way they go, just draw the appropriate direction arrow on the cranks.

Least you ordered yours with the folding seats, no less than 3 people at the old place found out the hard way when visiting Ikea/etc for the first time.

Can you get away with only taking one off, that way you only have to remember to take the right side (Chain side off) which is the regular thread.

SirHC It was one of the few options I could get away with without paying extra. Choice on paint? £500 so white it is.

ElVino I've not tried but if you take one you may as well take 2 off.

The tiny amount of time it takes to remove/refit pedals, I honestly cannot believe anyone would go to the bother of "inventing" Quick release pedals.
It no harder than removing/refitting a front wheel, or changing your shoes to drive home. 😆
