You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I arrived early for an organised ride yesterday only for the lever on my Maxle to sheer off in the car park as I was fitting the front wheel. The bike shop didn't stock any (only had 'boost' ones) and it was hit and miss if I could get home and back before registration closed on the off chance that my HT had one which would fit, it did and I made it back, just.
The local large chain bike shops don't have any in stock so I'm looking on the internet and finding quite a few places are out of stock too so I'm after a bit of advice so I don't order the wrong one.
I have a Pike on a 2016 MTB and printed on the axle it says:
L 146.5mm (length)
TL 9mm (what's that??)
TP M15x1.5 (15mm width but what's the 1.5?)
A direct replacement is £40+ but the snapped lever is a common issue, admittedly probably my fault due to over tightening, so I'm looking at the 'Stealth' version which is cheaper and has no lever to be hit by rocks or snapped by me 🙁
The numbers are slightly different? It's 1.5mm longer which I don't see as an issue but the TL is 10? What's that? Probably a stupid question but want to check it will fit. Is it something to do with the length of the screw section?
TL = Thread Length in mm
TP = Thread Pitch
Have a look at xcracer.com. They have MT Zoom ones for about £30. Should have one that fits
The thread length being slightly longer (if everything else is the same) is probably just because there is no camming action on the stealth. I had the same happen (in the garage a few days before the race) and decided I didn't want a repeat! Glad my new forks had a bolt through as standard too
Thanks guys.
Found a Stealth one on Amazon Prime for £30.
I would have added to an old thread but it said it was closed for replies.
