Given daughters boyfriend an old road bike of mine to get him going. He's bought a new frame (the right size) and is swapping all the old bits over. The problem is its a triple and we've only got a double front mech. Is it a case of altering the limit screws ? The original mech has gone missing somehow)
Triple front mechs are deeper "top to bottom" than are doubles, so as to cope with the increased disparity in chainring sizes.
Campag currently don't make a triple front mech in anything other than 11s format which dosen't play very well with anything other than it's intended shifters / chainset / chain ... so really, a bit more info would be handy ...
What's the FD fitting (clamp on or braze on, and if it's clamp on, whats the diameter of the seat tube?
What are the chainring sizes on the chainset?
How old is the chainset?
What levers are fitted
How many sprockets at the back?
Given that info, we can probably make arecommendation about something that will work for you and how to go about finding it - it may be Campag, we may end up having to look at a mixed marriage 🙂

The mech should work the 2 bigger rings if it's for the correct chain width.
If it's a "friction" shifter then any triple mech even shimano will work fine albeit you may get issues if it's not for the correct chain width.
Thanks for replies. The levers are veloce ergo's. It's a 9 speed, not sure about chainring sizes as it's at the boyfriends. It's a braze on fitting. It's a centaur chainset probably about 10 years old at a guess. Rear mech is mirage. After some googling I can see he needs a triple specific so it looks like ebay.
Cheers, Graham.
