Rear wheel of my 7spd commute mtb bike was pinched. I've got a spare rear wheel in the garage but its from a 10spd bike. Do I just need to buy a 7spd cassette to slide on the hub or will I need a spacer?

You will need a spacer, and possibly a chain if the existing one is worn.

I'm guessing the spacer goes on first followed by the cassette?

(Sheldon states a 4.5mm spacer!!!)

Correct - You can only put spacers at the back, i.e. on the spoke side of the freehub - the cassette lockring must tighten up against the serrated surface of the 1st sprocket with nothing in between. And the 1st sprocket incorporates a spacer. So the only 'optional' spacers are between the 2nd and 3rd sprockets, and onwards up the cassette.

Lovely, thanks.

Chain, Cassette and Spacer all ordered for £19 delivered! - this 7 speed stuff's dirt cheap!

(On trend to boot, what with SRAM's new DH setup! - might give it a go and paint them black!!!)
