Hi ,

Just got a new gravity dropper turbo and have 2 things I want to run by,

1 has anyone successfully used a lever from a different setup as I hate the lever and it won't fit well with my grip shift

2 is it normal for there to be a knocking popping noise when you take your weight off the saddle in the middle and lower positions ? Doesn't happen when the post is fully extended

Thanks

J

1. I haven't. Mine fits quite well under the bar on the right. I have however been able to use a semi circle from another brake clamp as the pastic one provided is cheese. There was a lad on here that was producing alt levers for droppers. someone might be along to tell you their name in a min or if they don't perhaps start a thread asking directly. If you have a spare pop loc lever that might work.

2. No, mine doesn't.

Isn't the noise just the locating pin going into the hole on the inner shaft? It won't do it at the top position because its travel is limited by fine adjustment of the top collar.
If you think that it's dropping a fraction too far in the bottom position and not locating correctly then try unscrewing the top collar a quarter turn at a time.

Any dropper lever that has the cable clamp at the lever end should work - Bontrager maybe?

Yep, top collar can be adjusted. Too far one way and it'll fail to latch in the top position, to far the other and it'll knock when you unweight the saddle.

I use a lever from a Crank brothers Cronolog. Needed a bit of bodging but works well.

Had a play around with the top collar ,but turning it either way had no effect on the loud popping sounf when I come off the saddle in either of the lower positions .

Am I overthinking it , is it just the sound of the pin mechanism settling into the recess on the post and par for the course , or maybe cable tension is too strong .It's brand new so if there is something up with it I'd rather send it back , no one I cycle with has one so can't compare

There's next to nothing to go wrong with them really - you've got to sort of "feel" for the middle position anyway, whereas the fully dropped position should engage with the saddle as far down as it will go. Unscrew the collar enough to stop it locking down and then screw it back on a bit until the pin just engages - then check the fully up position to make sure that it locks in place too. It's a bit of a balancing act between the two extremes of the travel on my experience anyway.

If that doesn't change anything then strip it down and treat it to some grease - maybe it's running a bit dry?

I've got my lever on the left and above the bars, maybe give that a try? Means you have to pull it rather than push it, but it works for me.

It's a bit tricky with other levers because the cable nipple is at the post end, you can't just easily use a shifter or similar as you can with KS etc where the nipple is at the lever end.

Does the knocking persist or is it just for the first couple of times when you sit on it? I can't remember mine doing it but then I didn't use the middle position much.

The Fox Transfer remotes have the non-nipple end at the lever and so might be an option *(assuming sufficient cable pull). One version mounts where the front shifter would be on a 2x/3x system, the other operates in a vertical plane and can be mounted on either left or right.

Or probably the nicest of the lot....Wolftooth dropper remote.

Although I don't find much wrong with the GD remote - I mount mine LH side/underneath.

@Northwind

It only makes a pop sound when I take my weight off the saddle while the post is in either of it's lower positions, like to stand up on the pedals or to get behind the saddle .It happens every time . It's like there is a bit of play in an up down direction for the lower positions and when the spring is uncompressed it pops the post up a little. It's kind of irritating but I could get used to it if it is just part of how the post operates .If it's not supposed to be happening it will be going back .
