Would you prefer the race categories to be called :

a) Girls XC
b) Females XC
c) Ladies XC
d) Something else?

This assumes females of all ages. Don't want to come across too formal but don't want to patronise either

Missus me says "Girls". She says "females" can be derogatory and "ladies" feels like it should be for the WI (thinking little britain I imagine). As we're not attending (shame) I think our opinion can be dismissed though.

yeah womens would be good - depends what you are calling the mens. If "mens" then use "womens" if "male" use "female" if "boys" use "girls" etc etc.

WCA, I saw you last Sunday at RD 4 of the Southern XC at Erlestoke, Devizes. Was about to start a race so did not say 'Hi'. (Guess it was you because your t-shirt said WorlClassAccident and you were handing out BBB flyers.) My wife showed me the flyer and said it looked like a good weekend for the family. ARGH! I guess we will have to go now... 😉

Any chance of explaining why 'females' can be seen as derogatory?

She said it was the tone certain men have a habit of using when saying it. Don't ask me, thats just what she said.

She also agrees with "womens".

Blokes categorries, who cares we just get on with it. Along come the women and there has to be a debate. Suppose thats the difference between the sexes

Male and female. Anyone that thinks female is a derogatory term is a nut job.

There is something in what Damien's missus is saying. I don't like it when 'females' is used as a noun. Something nob-head-in-a-pub-on-the-pull about it
