Hi ,

Looking out for new tyres here ,looking for a wide 2.35 or a 2.4 that can run Ust tubeless for an all mountain setup .

wanted to ask here before I buy if mavic crosstrail Charge and Quest XL are nice and wide proper 2.4s or are they more like a 2.4 which is actually a 3,5 or 3.2 .

Also like to hear from anyone who uses them ,

Cheers ,

J

That should read "which is actually a 2.35 or 2.2"

Can't help on sizing but a riding buddy had them in 650b flavour. Front one (whichever that is) was quite rounded and he didn't get on with it as washed out a fair bit. The rear wore very quickly.

Now swapped out and running Maxxis DHF 2.5 Wt on the Front and Maxxis Aggressor 2.4 on the rear. He loves that set up

Got em in 29" flavour on a hardtail. Mostly running on chiltern bridleways n trail centre surfaces. I also ran a charge in 26" flavour a few years ago n loved it

grip seems ok and they run big enough for the frame. They don't look small really. Quest has been ok on the back but I've not really had to push it. Charge is as good up front as the original one was.

Id be interested in trying out those tyres carlos mentioned , but the 2.5 stuff all seems downhill specific , would those tyres be out of place on an all mountain rig ?Im happy to trade off rolling resistance for stability and grip

Jambosambo - no they'd not be out of place an a normal mountain bike, just coz they're marketed as DH tyres doesn't mean they're DH specific only. I run a DHR2 and the Agressor on a nomad, mates bike is a Firebird. We ride natural stuff al over The Lakes, Wakes, Peak District, Shropshie, been to Scotland and Spain on them and they always perform predictably on a good mixture of surfaces.

Tbh there's prob not a lot of compromise on rolling resistance.
