Not sure it's been discussed before, but are ebikes scrutineered at any enduro races? With it being pretty simple to chip them, surely there are loads out there racing unfairly?
Are there any events that allow e-bikes?
Enduro races do.
I think because they're essentially time trials so you don't have multiple bikes in the same place at the same time British Cycling etc will insure them.
I've not seen the insurance argument before. A few said they just didn't want them there as it was an opportunity to give assistance to a mate who was in a non ebike cat,.
At a decent distance you would have to meaure battery use vs power - the mega did it up and down I think so if you chip it your power will run out faster and you have a lump to pedal uphill after that
"World gone mad" etc
ebikes are great if you haven't got enough time to stay fit.
It'd be even better if they were fully autonomous though, then we could all just slave away at work earning money so our auonomous cars and ebikes can go off to have fun.
Wasn't this all supposed to be the other way around? Maybe AI exists already and it's cleverly tricking us into being the slaves from the start. No skynet/battlestar galactica style robot rebellion required!
sorry i fogot what the question was.
Smaller enduro races are about 15 miles. That wouldn't be a problem for chipped ebike.
Aren’t enduro races about (mostly) downhill stages? So what advantage would having a chip make?
Also if you’re going to be that serious about it do any of the non e-bike competitors get drug tested? 😂
Most enduro races have a number of pedaling sections. Chipped bike definiteadvantage. I don't want this to be an ebike baking thread. Each to their own. I've ridden and enjoyed them, but I won't be getting one anytime soon.
I guess it would be fairly easy for a scrutineer to whizz the winning ebike up and down the road after the event and make sure it cuts out at the appropriate time - job done. But e-bike fields don’t seem to be that large at the moment - Boltby Bash had 12 I think, and as there’s no prize money on offer it doesn’t seem to be warranted as yet...
I know there are chips that can be switched on and off but if someone is determined to cheat and all that....
Aren’t enduro races about (mostly) downhill stages?
I don't know about the rest of the world but in the South East of England stages have plenty of pedally sections never mind the energy it takes to pedal up to the start of each stage
