I have not had gears for a few years, and the rear mech on my newish road bike now needs adjusting - I can't get into the two easiest gears on the back.

I have googled, but am lost. Can anyone point me in the direction of a non you-tube step by step guide?

Cheers

You just need to tweak the barrel adjuster, either at the front cable stop/on the cable, turn it to the right. Or do it on the mech, twist anti-clockwise.

No need to adjust any screws or anything, assuming it has worked up until now.

Haven't had any experience with the SRAM road kit yet, but I'd leave the screws alone, change down into the highest/smallest gear and use the barrel adjuster to tweek the cable tension to just take up any slack.

Right. I am stupid.

Whilst waiting for a reply, I messed with the screws. Both of them. Now I can't shift at all.

I spent 2 hours doing trial and error type adjustments before realising I was going to miss the ride I was supposed to be getting ready for. Now, I am going to have to swallow my pride, take it into the lbs who will be mad at me because I didn't buy the bike from them.

Cheers for the replies though. 🙁

The Screws are only there to stop the chain jumping off the sprockets,Undo the cable holding allen bolt on the Rear mech,Make sure the Shifter is in the Smallest sprocket position (Harder to pedal)

Support the bike by the saddle so you can turn the pedals by hand

While the cable is slack/move the mech with your hand while looking down the rear block, The High and Low adjustment screw will stop the Jockey wheels/chain moving to far, turn the screws in or out depending on the jockey wheel alignment.

with the shifter in the above position re tighten the cable mech allen bolt, increase cable tension on the adjusters until you have all gears selected, jobs sorted 😉
