You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Planning a weekend early Nov, never been before. Mixed party of walkers and bikers.
Can anyone suggest the best place to base ourseleves, and some accommodation?
Ideally a small hotel with comfy rooms, good beer and good food!
Thanks.
Can't help with the accommodation but do you have any routes in mind yet? Went on a trip there for the first time last month, some of the best natural singletrack descents I've ridden. Can't wait to go back!
The beer and food isn't bad in the Lethbridge in Bishops Lydeard, can't tell you about the rooms though because I only live half a mile away 🙂
Carew Arms in Crowcombe
Thanks, Carew Arms looks great.
Anywhere round the northern side within easier reach (we will be coming down the M5 from the Midlands)?
It looks quite a long loop round to Crowcombe for example.
Thanks again.
Hiya.
The most northern place to stay within reasonable reach of the hills is the Hood Arms in Kilve. There's a selection of types of accommodation and the food there is general of high Quality. I'll be staying there this weekend so can up date on the standards next week.
There's also the castle of Comfort near Holford, but i can't speak for the food and service there.
The Carew is great but the climb first thing in the morning may bite a touch.
The old cider house in Nether Stowey is popular with mountain bike groups, but i'd try the Rose and Crown in the village too.
If you fancy self catering and basic living, look up the http://www.campbellroom.org.uk/ For large groups on a Budget, you won't get better.
Or further from the hills

Hope that helps.
We didn't stay in The Carew, we stayed in a caravan nearby for the week, but went to the Carew the night before my brother's wedding for a meal and drinks, plenty of people were staying there though and said it was great. Food was very good and the beer (Will's Neck) was very nice.
The climb up certainly wakes you up, I did it three times while I was there, up from the Blue Ball Pub in Triscombe, its not so bad, my 9 year old did it twice (he did get off and walk the steepest bit though).
We came down the M5 from Shropshire, there's a road over the Quantocks from Nether Stowey to Crowcombe, easy.
