Most MTB trousers tend to be on the heavier side, i.e. DH orientated or winter waterproofs.

The best thing I've used that is similar to what you want is lightweight hiking trousers.

Something like the Regatta Sungari trousers:
https://www.regatta.com/pantalon-technique-et-lger-homme-sungari-majolica-bluesea-blue/

I found them a bit baggy round the ankles, as they're designed for walking boots, but I just took them in a little on the sewing machine.

At £15 currently they're a bit of a bargain.

I bought some Endura cycing trousers.

Comfy, big zips at the ankle, takes a click-fast liner, shower proof...

I'd recommend them, I paid about fifty quid.

These ones; Endura Humvee Trousers

I didn't buy from Wiggle but I paid a similar price.

Fox Defend Kevlar are expensive but very comfortable and have good venting. Others are too fragile feeling imo

How about.

https://www.keela.co.uk/lw-op-trousers.html

They also list other trousers.

Not tried them myself, but read lots of good reviews, some on here.

You might want to try Keela Roadrunners. Lightweight, stretchy, vented. Only water-resistant though - and that requiring re-treated occasionally. I find riding in full waterproof trousers just too sweaty.

Madison do some soft shell that are good,. Trouser version if their shorts. Forget the name. Not waterproof but comfy well made and keep some of elements away. Maybe a bit warm for summer.

Fox Flexair are great, really nicely made but lightweight and stretchy. Done lots of XC miles in them.

Have a look at the endura urban stretch trousers. lightweight, comfy, stretchy. not waterproof, but will dry quickly.

Nice option if you want long legs to ride in comfortably, but don't want to look like you're wearing DH race pants, pyjamas, or bin bags on your legs (or Jackets! but for Legs!)

Cuffs just tight enough not to flap on the chainring.

I've got a pair of those, more office trousers than MTB ones!

I use them for cycling to meetings where I'm not sure I'll be able to get changed on arrival.

If you want waterproof then you re looking at heavier ones. Royal Storm pant are pretty good as are the Fox defend range which has waterproof and warm options.

If you want lightweight the Fox Flexair ones are good but Specialized Demo Pro are probably the best I have used.

There are a few 'in betweeners' that are not as light as say the Sepcialized but not really weather resistant either.

Anyway plenty of choice and moving away from the heavy old DH style.

The Regatta hiking trews mentioned above are fine, but note you do have to put kneepads over the top of them.

I'm cool with this, but not everyone has my sartorial courage.

I also tuck them in my socks sometimes.

You never put pics of that on Strava/Instagram 🙂

On topic, I've got the Nukeproof trousers and really like them, but as most of the above, not waterproof.

+1 here for the Nukeproof Blacklines, not waterproof, but having clean legs after a muddy trail ride is a joy.

Everyone lives their best life on the 'gram.

You'll have to wait til the autumn now probably, but I will.

I've got a pair of the Sweet Protection Hunter Light ones. They're not waterproof, but the material does dry out pretty damn fast, they're reasonably windproof, and comfy. I would advise trying on a few pairs though, and if you can, try them out while sitting on a bike. I went to Stif, (local-ish to me), and they were kind enough to really let me faff about with pairs of Fox, Endura, and Sweet Protection, so props to them. The brands I tried on felt really different, Fox wasn't at all the right shape for me, and Endura likewise the pants were just too heavy grade material to make me think they'd ever be really comfy (just too warm I think). The SP ones are like a light weight shorts material made into a pair of trousers.

MTB trousers are a really good addition to most folks wardrobe I think, worm them more often that I thought I would, and especially great when it's that sort of splashy, overcast, sort of not quite double figures temperature sort of day. Pretty much our weather really!

I've got a pair of these Ranger Water pants, they are really waterproof and pretty comfy. Maybe a bit hit in height of summer.

Sadly, it looks like they are unavailable at the moment.

My lightish weight Endura kneepads fit under them fine.

Sport Pursuit have a sale on Salomon stuff at the mo- quite few styles of lighweight 4-way stretch trousers that would be ideal I reckon, around £30-40. Only problem is, the sizing doesn't make any sense!

i`ve some boardman MTB trews that are super lightweight - so good in summer. can fit fox lauch pros under them no prob. not waterproof but for £50 i wouldnt expect that. also i wont cry when i crash and rip them. they are black so fairly stealth for the bike snobs. i expected them to fall apart quickly (so i could buy some posh ones) but i cant kill them.

Fair comment.

I mainly use quite chunky kneepads.
