Anybody know if the 15mm QR is that much better (stiffer) than the normal QR?
Well if its bigger it will be. But if you notice will depend on lots of other things, like what you ride, how you ride, how your wheels are built etc etc.
yes, the QR15 is noticeably stiffer, especially under heavy braking or more aggressive riding
the fork lowers can also be made slightly lighter - which can been seen with the weight difference between fox's 32 forks with QR dropouts and 32 forks with QR15 dropouts
Ditto
I'm not sure my new 150mm 15mm Maxle Revelations are any stiffer then the 140mm Fox Vanillas they replaced.... But that's 2 totally different forks so not really a fair comparison.
That said, I simply wouldn't buy a fork that had a QR axle any more. 20mm/15mmQR/Maxle/Maxle Lite etc are just waaaaaay better in every respect these days: More secure, safer, stiffer, easier and faster to use.
To me QR is dead....
Noticably stiffer for sure. 15mm rules at the very unscientific 'wheel between the legs and wrench on the bars' test.
Thanks guy's. Just toying with the idea of swapping my 36 floats for some 32's. I was a little worried I would notice the flex after riding the 20mm axle. I've got a pair of 32 float r's on my hard tail which I'm going to swap over and try, they're only 9mm QR but will give me some idea I suppose.
danno, if you ride hard you probably will feel the difference. that said, i was surprised how good qr15's with a tapered steerer are if thats an option for you?
thats nto to diss standard steerer qr15's they are FAR better than a standard qr, but a 36 takes some beating
i got on with my qr15's and found them a lot stiffer than standard qr, but not nearly as stiff as 20mm bolt through
I certainly noticed the difference going from QR 130mm Revelations to QR15 Marzocchi 44 Micro Ti's.
Much stiffer and more positive on rough stuff
