You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Hello,
I'm thinking of going to QECP Friday as I have a day off, but what will it be like there after this weeks finest August weather? Will it be a washout/mudfest or does it drain fairly well up there? (Never been before.)
Cheers
Drains really well.
The tops will still be a bit sticky and you may find on the long DH section back into the carpack slippy on the roots and ruts but nothing to be overly concerned about.
The rest, well under the trees it'll be fine, the bit furthest North where it doubles back up onto the fire road might be slippy as it's a bit clay'ie.
Should be great IMO.
Horrible.
As one of the active locals (scottfitz?) said previously here - QE is best in the dry or when it's actually raining. When its still a raining sloppy soup your cut deep and get grip. When it has rained a lot but is just beginning to dry it is at it's very worst.
lol, brilliant.
Thanks both, any more?
I'd avoid. Wet chalk / flint / roots are not a great combo if you want to stay upright. It used to get quite claggy in sections, but I've not been in the wet for a long time so the new trails may have improved that.
Go to somewhere like Swinley instead, better all weather trails.
The blue is a decent all weather route thanks to the recent great work by scottfitz and the qe collective. Red - as above. However, just back in now from there after a kids morning. We rode a combo of bits of red and blue and it was all fine, despite yesterday's rain.

Will be fine mostly all weather however the final decent is not finish as yet, Here is a short of it being constructed, It gives you some idea of the work that goes into it:
Red trail
The red trail will be slippy but not to muddy. If your not good on wet roots I would avoid. The sections that ride the best after the rain are Final decent and lumberjack.
A good combo is the Blue trail with the red final decent at the end.

Yep that is currenty true. Also with all the Blue trail work we have been doing not maintained much of the red recently, that will be done this winter.
Worst that could happen is you retire to the cafe and eat cake. 🙂
Yup, I'd go and I have been in torrential rain on numerous occasions, it's still a great place to play.
Never been to Swinley so can't help there.

It's for people who can't ride tree roots 😉

I can ride tree roots but bloody hate riding tree roots. Which makes QE being about 3 miles from home at bit of a mixed blessing.
Dunno about QE, but after today's rain I'd avoid THE OUTDOORS!
It is a bit "moist" down here after the last couple of days....
Yup, after todays torrent I'd give it a miss too now.. 😕
Rogate will be prefect after all this rain!DezB - MemberDunno about QE, but after today's rain I'd avoid THE OUTDOORS!

Do need to be able to cope with cobbles though 😉
The hard pack official stuff at Swinley copes well with the wet except where it's rutted badly. The linking fireroads and sections that aren't so all weather get claggy on the ginger.
Yeh, I think it's off after today's rain 🙁
After all this sun it won't be all dust and marbles today then? 😀
If it was me, Rogate today then QECP tomorrow.
Edit: And while you guys are talking about local stuff, check this out, my Vlog from the new Southern enduro venue 😉
I've never heard of Rogate, is that cheeky trails or a center or?
loving the vlog too, nothing like watching a bloke walking with a spade to get some weird looks in the office
I went to QECP on Wed eve. That would have been in the worst of conditions and it was absolutely fine. I wasnt too muddy (not like winter) and the trails were running very well indeed. Just stuck to the red+blue routes and only issues I had was the chalk berms on switchbacks+final descent were slippy.
DH centre, but not to technical. Point is rides great after it rains but is rubbish when its really dry.I've never heard of Rogate, is that cheeky trails or a center or?
Great winter riding spot also not to far from location of Vlog 😉

Nice. DH might be a bit above me tho!
So I went today, was certainly a bit wet underfoot, which is when I learn some harsh truths about me and roots!
But yeh, great fun. Going down is great. Climbing on the roots was a bit stop and start. People were right about the chalk/clay being slippy on the berms, but at least it made it interesting.
Great trail, will look forward to going back!
You were warned 🙂
