Trying to work out why my slicked up/locked out Superfly feels so much faster than my singlespeed road bike (and possibly, weirder yet, my geared up summer road bike...).
The Superfly is probably the same weight as the singlespeed road bike, probably less aero, but with gears and latex inner tubes (hangover from CX season) so I could sort of understand it feeling a bit quicker, but not 2.5km/h quicker over 20km!
Obviously it's heavier than the road bike, and less aero, but does have fatter tyres which I could understand contributing to the smoothness and maybe a small amount of speed on rougher roads, but again, not the fairly significant extra speed I've seen on the last two commutes, and not enough to offset the weight or the lack of aero.
Some recent bike fitting and knee pain identifying has had me looking at the Q-factor of my bikes, the road bike and singlespeed hover around about 150mm and with 55mm wide Look Keos.
The Superfly is 170mm with Time ATACs, no idea what the width of the pedals is but I'm assuming at least the same as the Keos.
So, has anyone noticed feeling significantly faster on a bike for having a wider Q-Factor?
