Will i ruin my Whyte 19 Team, by putting 140mm fox forks on it?
I have been running it with a Maverick SC32 for a few years(125mm) and they took a bashing at Afan recently and I have some Fox forks to put on, will it become stupid on the handling front?
The bike is about 5 years old so I'm not bothered about warranty issues etc,just if i'll die by being thrown off the back going uphill?!?!

The usual rule is an extra 20mm of travel on top of the stock fork should be ok. Saying that, when I went from 120 to 140 on my xc hardtail it completely changed its handling characteristics.
According to the Whyte website it was designed around a 100mm fork, I've been running 125mm for years on it and it rides really well, hope that stays true for 140mm!!

My Ramones has a 100-140 U-turn fork & 20mm travel makes quite a difference. 140 is great for going downhill but on the flat it not only makes the steering chopper-esque but it also lifts the BB and it just feels awful. I would hate to ride it around like that all the time. Would think carefully about putting a 140 fork on a bike designed around a 100
I'm hoping the adjustable dropouts set to lowering the bottom bracket and lengthening the chainstays will help to offset the longer travel of the forks??
I'd want to go for shorter chainstays. the axle's going to be further ahead than it is now so getting the front end up will be harder as it is, longer chainstays will just add to this effect by shifting your weight forwards.
[edit] although you don't want to be feelign like you're looping out over the back wheel either. That's the problem with bike geometry, it all interacts...
I will try both options see what works best, if it's a complete disaster then plan b is a new bike then!!!
