Never noticed this in the past but over the last month or so whenever I've been pushing climbs really hard (interval 190-200bpm) I'm getting stomach cramps and an urge to have a dump.

It will return to feeling 'normal' after a short period of recovery post climb

I've read its to do with blood moving from your stomach to your muscles. Never had it before, on occasions I've felt dizzy but not like I'm going to crap myself!

Anyone else or is this just me?! Should I be visiting the doc?

You're definitely gonna die.

As for the cramps, you're right, when you push hard the body shuts down non-vital functions. Digestion being one of them. So long as you don't actually start pooling yourself I wouldn't worry about it. Have you thrown up yet? That's a sign you're near to your absolute limit, right before passing out.

I've had that before, a sign I'm pushing it too hard.
Google "exercise induced diarrhoea"
I've had to disappear in to the undergrowth and make like a bear 😳

I have a mate that can push himself to the point where he throws up, I've never managed it, i'm obviously not trying hard enough 🙂

I've had the feeling like I'm about to shit myself moment twice though. It was at an Enduro at Ae a few years ago. Had it in practice and again on race day at the same point on the same timed stage, the stage started with a climb and it was on the climb where I got the urge 😕

If your pushing hard why wouldn't you expect your body to complain 🙂

I throttle back from throwing up , I think it's one of those things that you get used to, like sugar crashes.

Did wonder why a good ride was like a dose of bran thou .....

Use to happen when i ran.

Was advised to change my dump routine to have emptier bowels when I ran in the evenings. Worked a treat

Yep - always go for a dump before big intervals.

I've worked out at this intensity before, strange it seems to now be an issue. Always ride "empty" too. Read something about protein could be an issue and I'm eating more than I used to.

If you've changed nothing else you should go for a check up. The urge to defecate can be an indicator for cardiac issues (shared nerve pathway I think) in the elderly. Not heard of it in this sort of way but better safe than sorry.

Only other thing I can think off is you are subconsciously searching foe reasons to stop the pain!

If you're taking protein powders/bars then either stop or change them. Some of them play more havoc than others with your digestive system. Are you also having excessive wind throughout the day? Another symptom of protein powders!
