If one wanted to escape the in-laws over Xmas, around the Chester area, for a days xc where would one be best to go?
Around an hours drive would be cool.
Cheers

Llandegla. It's where I escape the in-laws in Birkenhead. There's probably decent natural stuff around there too but this makes it easy for a quick getaway.

Just go all Captain Oates on them and pedal away into the blizzard.

From Frodsham, it's Delamere, surely?

Delamere is pretty close to Frodsham, lots of nice singletrack, no hills. Lots of STWers round there.

For some natural stuff head over to the Clwydian ranges and Moel Famau. I reckon you'd struggle to get into the car park at Llandegla over xmas!
