While out on my eMTB with tubeless. As ever and as a good boy scout I knew I had all the stuff needed with me.  Turns out the sealant had all dried up and it wouldn't seal when reinflated 🙁  No problem - whip the tubeless valve out, tyre off, get spare tube out of my bag.  Its an effing 16" tube for my trailer!  Fortunately a bike shop was only a half mile walk away

Warra numpty  Be prepared my arse!

Sealant's ammonia based, right? Surely, if you add some urine to the tyre it'll melt the dried up sealant and get it working again. If it doesn't, then take it to a bike shop and ask them to sort out the mess.

add some urine

I can't tell if that's absolutely true or the greatest troll I've ever read.

In either case, Bravo!!!!!

...and if you poop in it, helps seal some of the bigger holes. (Works best if you've eaten corn the previous day).

Aye, my 'favourite' post puncture cock up is right inner tube/wrong valve length. Ie short valve + deep section rims. I've learned the error of my ways and it won't happen again - until next time :-I

 whip the tubeless valve out

I'd manged to either screw the lock nut down ridiculously tightly, or it'd gummed up with sealant, but I've been scuppered by not being able to get the valve out, and that was a long walk home...Every now and then I now give them a turn at home to make sure they're not stupid tight.

A big shout out to Dales cycles in Glasgow who sold me a tube. Loaned me a track pump so I didn't have to use my wee tiny pump and let me change the tyre in the entrance to the shop.  friendly, helpful and kind

Oh, thanks for reminding me! I've just treated my road bike to 50mm rims, but I'm still sticking the same short valve tube in my pocket when I go out. Would be completely useless. Numpty.

Re deep rims, I think you can get valve extenders, possibly worth putting in repair kit...some older spare tubes are very short, must get some myself!

Other great moments include

Getting everything sorted, then unscrewing the pump connector, which neatly removes the  valve core with it.

I’ve not had this yet but one day I’ll need a tube and have to have to deal with the sharks mouth off thorns sticking through the tyre and previously sealed

"I’ve just treated my road bike to 50mm rims"

My first thought was "how wide?" 🙂

My last cock up was realising I had a shrader tube in my backpack but the rim was presta. No way was that valve going to go through the rim hole.

You can and I had some on that fateful day. I've never been able to get them to work properly. Probly User error of some sort...

...go through the rim hole

The 14 year old boy that I (still) am couldn't stifle a titter at this... 🙂

Happened once. The pump got binned. All bikes now have variations of Toppeak Road Morph now.

My best puncture related cock up was storing the little tubeless repair stabbing thing in the bag with the tube.

The other issue with tubeless, is punctures are so rare, when I do get one I discover the pump has lost a vital part or simply no longer works.

pull out the CO2 to find it had already been used. No pump. Not my proudest moment. All my bikes carry a 90mm valve inner tube as a spare. Take no chances despite most wheels having open pro rims!

I've given up taking a tube and levers because I can't get tyres off the rim any more, due to stronger modern sidewalls and my old thumbs getting weaker. Haven't had a proper puncture in years though

2oz.  And the spout is the right size for a valve stem once the core is out.

Just saying…

Can relate to this one mine wouldn't reseal today either so ended up sticking a tube in. This was what was left of the sealant!20241227_162256

First time ever (I think) I had to use a tyre boot the other weekend. Cheeky flint slash through the tread. I haven't replaced the boot in my camelback (but have replaced the tyre), and am riding in the same area again on Sunday, so I think we all know what's going to happen 🙂

Been there, done that - both via having the wrong size tyre and having sealant dry out.
Two separate occasions, both resulted in walking the last few miles to work. (To be fair, that's still a lower proportion of failed commutes than using cars).

They're also why I'm now always the nerdy one who insists on having at least a tube or two plus patches plus a mini pump even if I've got a CO2 canister or two for any ride where I'm not willing to walk back home again (i.e. about a mile radius!). I'm not up for adding top up sealant to the pack - if the sealants failed then I'm for giving up and putting a tube in (after a very, very careful check for thorns)

I carry the top up sealant with me. With the hawthorn round here it’s a better bet than an inner tube. That and dynaplugs.

I am normally really well organised.  I had plugs with me but without sealant I wasn't sure how good they would be
