My mum is looking for puncture protection for her new e bike. Fixing flats on the trail is beyond her, so we're looking at alternatives.

Does injecting slime into tubes work? The blurb claims it only lasts 3 months which seems short. Can you get spray cans of stuff to squirt in after the puncture like with cars?

You can get cans that seal and inflate yes, £7 last time I sold one. No idea what you do afterwards or if it's long term.

I think some folk use stans? No idea re slime.

What kind of riding will she do?

Have a look at Tannus Armour inserts. I have installed them along with slime tubes. No punctures for three months a so far.. Might seem expensive but it is almost fit and forget.

I suffer with an old injury to my arm and wrist which makes repairing a puncture in the field impossible, this system gives me the confidence to keep biking.

For pinch flats, Prevention is better than cure.. A digital pressure guage and check before each ride.

For penetrative punctures.. Heavier tyres.

Road and light trails. The tyres are Maxxis DTR-1 which I don't think are armoured.

I'd be looking at something like schwalbe marathon I used to run them on an old MTB commuter that I rode through some dodgy areas both broken glass a regular feature, always getting punctures, never had one with marathons.

They are horrible heavy things though so there is a compromise obviously, I'm not fully up to date on the different versions they do.

Marathon Plus if she really doesn't want a puncture. They are certainly not the fastest tyres in the world but she has an eBike to overcome some of that.
I am currently using them again (mostly on gravel where they seem fine) and don't even take any tools, tubes etc,. with me as they are not required.

Planet X have some cheap vee tyres and others, I think vittoria, designed for ebikes - in other words highly puncture resistant, very hard wearing, and heavier than you would want on an unpowered bike.
You can also have a look on planet X for Oko x-treme heavy duty sealent, which is specifically for use in tubes rather than tubeless and is pretty thick with lots of puncture blocking fibres. It works well also.

Marathon plus +1

And slime inner tube inside just in case.

And pressure towards the higher end

I agree with TJ. Always use them, some pairs have worn out before I've had a puncture, others one in 3 or 4 years commuting. Fast enough for my road bike too. I use the Sport model, I assume versions with some tread are available.

I used Marathons for a few years with no punctures. Switched to gravel kings,  5 punctures in about two weeks on the same route.

Now on conti contracts. Nearly broke me getting it on the rim, but a few months in and no punctures so far. Again,  on the same route.

conti contact protection tyres

You are mixing your tyres up (Protection is related to their tubeless tyres)
Contact are the touring/urban tires and there are a lot of models with some being like Marathon Plus (and even call contact Plus) and some being thinner/lighter and no where near as puncture proof as Contact Plus or Marathon Plus.

Another one here for Marathon plus tyres

Ive been running them for 6 years, 20 miles a day, 5 days a week, 48 weeks of the year commuting to and from work, when i see glass or thorn bush cuttings (quite regular on my work route) i just ride straight through them

Not had one puncture in the last 6 years on that bike and i wear the tyres down till the protection belt starts showing through before ordering a new pair
