Do I need to remove my cassette to remove my end caps on my hub?
Thanks.
Videos in YouTube shows how to do it on new wheels (without cassettes).
To remedy my squeaky wheels Super(sh1t) star componenets have told me to remove the end caps off my hubs and reseat the rubber O ring.
Crap service but cheap wheels.
Yes, in mine at least, pro2 evo standard QR.
Also on mine - Stans 3.30
Thanks fellas.
Will dig out my chain whip.
How is the supplier giving crap service by giving you advice on how to remedy the problem?
Let’s see, I sell you an item that’s faulty.
You tell me that it’s faulty.
Then I tell you to repair it.
Good luck with your business plan.
I’m siding with superstar on this one!
Me too - you'd have to take the cassette off to post them and pulling end caps off is literally a 30second job.
Just greasing the o-rings on my SS Switch hub end caps did the trick for me - not a biggy
Hmm. I have an annoying 'squeaky dog toy' noise on my DT Swiss when I'm going quickly - hadn't considered the end caps. What kind of grease do they like?
Good luck with your business plan.
Superstar components seem to have bumbled through the last twelve years ok and grown from being a simple rebrander of imported goods to developing and manufacturing in the UK for themselves and others. I'd say their business plan is pretty good, regardless of the stick they get on here.
It sounds like your fault is a simple fit issue. Generally people would be totally fine with an email from Hope giving the same advice, so why not here?
Generally for endcaps i'll use the same blue marine grease (prob XHP222) that I do in the free hub. It's probably overkill but it's going to do the job and stay put, plus I already have uses for it...
They had the details wrong so my LBS took it a part and found it the O rings were not in place and the bearings were stiff.
They used an Allen key and a 17mm cone spanner as it was a QR and not a Thru axel. Hopefully it’s ok but LBS was not happy with the bearing stiffness but they did it for free from buying a few things with them.
If I had the instructions in the first place, I’d be happy. Not 10 emails of pull the caps off on a new set of wheels.
Now SS have asked me to return the wheels if the problem doesn’t go away. They should have done this in the first place instead of trying to fob me off.
If you think this is great service, selling things and then telling customers to fix it? Good luck with your business plan!
Slightly off topic, but my first set of hope hubs had bastard stiff end caps. Leaving the cassette on was sometimes the only way I could get the drive side one off as I’d have to wrap a flat chisel in tape and use it to jemmy the cassette off by pushing against the spoke bases. Eventually the whole lot would drop off. Haven’t had this problem since, so must have just been a rogue set.
It’s not hard to pull the end caps off wheels, you weren’t giving much detail of hub type or sizing on here, so did you give superstar sufficient info to give you precise instructions?
I’m unsure what they could have known about stiff bearings though? But if you’re not happy send them back as they offered
Superstar had my order details and I took pics.
I didn’t force anything in case I invalidate the warranty.
My Swiss hubs can be pulled apart and my Hope hubs just need Allen keys etc. These companies offer decent support and instructions.
I sent numerous clear emails - they were not interested.
My LBS were great and didn’t charge me.
