Cracking Weather eh lads ?
Midges not so good
MIDGEEES
Course was alot faster than the winterpuffer(but near enough the same as direction wise) loose and rocky and got severely holed by people braking.
I hate those rocky switch back climbs from that stupid bridge - a definant low point on the course every lap for me.
That final descent was fast though and long !
Very well organised event ....except the red poppy catering didnt half let them selves down. At all previous puffers there catering has been great - thought it was very shit last night - not to mention them turning up late so we couldnt even get scran pre race . and at half an hour laps that doesnt leave much time to eat propper food during the race .
Hey, the midgies were special coaching midgies. They are trained by the Square Wheels mob to only attack people who were slacking 🙂
The nasty little devils seemed to like to get under my glasses and nibble at my eyelids on the tech bits. Try scratching one-handed then 🙁
Great event -agree about the catering arrangements - it was a bit rough on the soloists not having food before the event, especially as we are used to Red Poppy being so good.
Good mainly enjoyable event. Agree about the catering, I didn't cash in my meal voucher until 7am - the pasta had probably been baked all night in the hot box! Midges.....arrgghhh. Braking bumps on the swoopy down hill sections did literally become a pain, especially as I was riding fully rigid - never again! What a different experience to the Winter event. Better advertrising might have seen more people taking part as.
Should also add - the marshalls - as always these folk did an amazing job and definately deserve a special mention for their continued support lap after lap.
i stopped wearing specs for that reason epicyclo
that rocky switch back climb musta been a pain on Rigid !
I can only begin to imagine what the midges were like...
We were at K'tree and they were going for it there too.
anyone know the medic(i think) who was taking photos early on at the bridge at the top of the course .... i got big cheers and woops from them for manualing across the bridge for the camera. Wanted to see the shot 😀
then later on in the night my light slipped down on my helmet and while trying to sort it i fell off the bridge and smashed my knee off it and my bar end off my bars.... Cheers to the guy on the Indy fab who stopped to help !
Another excellent 12hr enduro event 🙂 well done to the organisers and marshalls. Also the competitors who were all spot on.
Special thanks goes out to Donnie (who helped me out at the top of the fire trail climb. Walking down, after a double puncture he stopped and gave me a tube and co2. Top man. No idea who he is but I know he had the blue BMW parked on the last corner. (would like to replace the tube + co2 and thanks so if you know him please let me know)
Delighted with 3rd solo. Feeling it today!!
Was a tough race and seemed to be even harder on the body than normal.
Well done to all who competed.
Certainly a bit odd riding there in nice weather and warm temps...
As the catering van was key to my pre-race eating strategy their turning up 5 mins to the start was a bit of a pisser, to say the least. Hopefully it was a one-off as all previous puffers and last year's Dawn Raid the food was there long before the start and pretty good.
Fingers crossed it will be on again [with similar weather] next year.
The lack of advertising was because it was a last minute effort following the late notice that the Dawn Raid would not be sponsored.
So even more credit to the organisers for pulling it off. Apparently they are not too happy about the late arrival of the food either.
The only thing they can be faulted on is that they forgot to provide traditional StrathPuffer weather, and may the lord be thankit 🙂
In agreement with all of the above. Food was the only negative at a cracking event. I came in off my final lap to be told my wrist band (for complimentary meal) had "expired", total bummer.
Everything else was awesome though, i always find it amazing that these people are willing to give up their time to allow us to have our fun. The marshalls constant motivational whoops and applause was most welcome and uplifting. Also there was a great medic woman at the ambulance at the start/finish who was most obliging with her can of Wintergreen for my sore back (poor me ).
Oh yeah Midgies and Nettles kind of got into my head later on but probably took my mind off the pain.
