Sorry for hijacking the thread but any recommendations for spokes? This is my first wheel I'll be building so I'm bamboozled by the vast options. Just need someone to recommend me something decent and I'll buy em. Don't need anything fancy or high end.
DT rims come with alloy squorx nipples (funny-shaped ones rather than a slot across the top) and nipple washers (really), but I prefer to sub those out for brass versions. Not essential though.

another shout to the Stif ebay outlet. some very good deals there, just picked up a 30.9 KS Lev integra Ci for £50. Just arrived, expecting i to be a fitted and removed OEM version with no hardware and it's boxed retail with a cable and a 'round the bar' type lever too. very pleased.

I get spokes (often Sapim CX-Ray) and rims (often DT or Spank) from David at DCR wheels in Lewes near Brighton. Mind you their build skill is very high and only costs about £30 so in the past I generally just gave them the hubs.
I've gone with those Alpina spokes from Cycle Basket. The low price point makes me happy and will go nicely with my cheap rim and hub. Thanks all!

I think the issue is that there are strict limits on the use of "mixed materials" in cycle clothing at the competition level. This probably gets around that by being a different garment?

But the DLX at £50 if it fits is a good un, that's an excellent UK shoe, just a normal freerider with a little more weather protection. It's basically only about as weatherproof as the EPS but that's more useful in a non-winter shoe. If they had my size I'd probably buy 2 sets 😛

Does that apply to the mid-size on offer here? I have the normal Freerider EPS and have exactly the problem you stated, it's nice and warm but once moisture gets in the top the shoes gets wet through. And then can take days to dry out. But I thought the mid or high version could partially solve that by preventing water ingress around the heel.

Same here, they sent a returns label quickly. Looks like the listing has changed now to trail endurance so they did realise eventually.

In terms of the tread, they don't feel too dissimilar to a Kryptotal Enduro soft. Maybe a bit firmer but still quite tacky.
Are they worth having as a trail tyre for winter? Or do I send them back. I tend to use MaxxGrip on the front or more recently, a T9. The Argotal feels firmer than the MaxxGrip and less tacky than the T9
As I specifically wanted them as spares for the current Enduro Soft Argotals I have, in that respect they are bad. The casing would probably be OK, but I think the compound would be too hard for what I want. I would want as soft a compound as possible on the front, especially in winter when there's less residual grip to start with.
I have had good results with Schwalbe Marys in Trail casing and Addix Soft, but wouldn't want to go harder compound on them, either.

IMO the casing's actually good, it's not tough enough for me but it does well for its weight (I can <almost> get away with the trail krypto on the back of a full suss, which unscientifically puts it above exo and pretty much on par with exo+, probably). For a lot of people it'll be fine, and probably better than a lot of others in its class
I haven't used the trail argo but imo the tread-and-compound balance of the soft argotal is what makes it so bloody good, it's not perfect but it's better than most... but if anything the soft is just a little on the firm side considering how capable the tread is, you run out of rubber grip before you run out of tread grip, especially when things get greasy but still firm, like they have been here this week.
I'm not sure I can see much point in a tyre that knobbly with less sticky rubber, you'll get the drag of the knobs but not the overall grip, every tyre's as grippy as its worst component and if you're actually using the grip of the tread hard and then you hit a slimy rock or something, maybe you just die. There'll be specific cases where it works great, I'm sure.
(stealth ad but I'll have an enduro soft for sale shortly, they're really good but I've fallen in love with the highroller 3, it's slower but it can do anything)
