I admire the skepticism about those wheels. The fantasy RRP is utterly irrelevant, as they are £220 or £198 in my case. I reckon if you don't need new wheel then the best choice is to not buy new wheels.
Having said all that if they were £800 RRP then they would retail at £500 and quite frankly they would have been competitive at this price. The weight is not necessarily conducive of value either. Some heavy wheels are expensive because of other factors and particularly how much abuse they can take.
Having got mine I am astounded by the build quality, the machining and the engineering having gone into them. I recently bought some Roval Controls on 350 hubs for £333 at 60% off and they feel quite low rent in comparison.
I have some M1900 too and those feel very very cheap in comparison. And they are 200g heavier if that's important and they are sleeved. I think you would have to pay £350 for those though which suddenly feels very poor value.
And the only cheap thing about the Syntace is the price. They look, ride and feel VERY expensive.

Re Syntace wheels, mine turned up today. First impressions very good. Nice tight and even build, quality seems excellent but time will tell on durability I guess.
I was slightly worried they would be a bit narrow but they're a decent width, slightly narrow than an xm481, should be good for trail/enduro unless you run really big tyres.
Hopefully I'll get them slung on my hardtail later this evening.
Edit: I also agree there's more to worry about than weight. I'd prefer a nice strong durable set of wheels that last. That said I'm hefty, no race snake, ride hard, and consequently I tend to break stuff

Home bargains have some camping bits in and as part of that have some butane propane mix 350g gas canisters with a standard thread for your normal camping stoves. £1.50 which is the cheapest I've ever seen!
They are not a very convenient shape (thin and tall) so you would struggle.to use directly except for a remote stove with a long hose.
However you can get an adapter to refill empties.
Earlier I fully refilled 3x standard empty 100g cartridges from a home bargains one and there's still a bit left over.
I'm not sure what the mix is so unsure of cold weather performance, but still 👍

This is really niche but I'm feeling very pleased to have discovered it. We have annual worldwide travel insurance through our RBS Premier Platinum account. Cover is limited to trips of less than 30 days. My daughter is going to the US for 80 days and it was going to cost me £167 to upgrade the cover to extended trip. Instead of doing this, I have upgraded the bank account to Premier Black. This only costs £12 per month more but includes trips up to 90 day and airport lounge access (I've got a few trips coming up so will make good use of this). I'll only stick with this account for the summer so total additional cost will be about £48, rather than £167. Winner.

Not at all. Far cheaper than that, not that the RRP means anything.
Being built in the UK doesn't bring any functional benefits so people don't pay that, hence the discounting, which would need to be even deeper as I said, to compete with TW welding, which it probably can't what with the extra layer of unnecessary UK cost yet probably less consistent in terms of quality and finish. I fear Orange are on a road to nowhere or maybe to be a boutique brand with loyal (read "old") customers.

I'd have agreed with you, they definitely moved to "boutique" pricing and I don't see many of the newest ones out and about.
But £900 is still an absolute bargain for that quality of frame. The frame pricing should be closer to £2k RRP than £3k if they want to survive. I honestly don't know how much of their price increases were aspirational/opportunistic and how much was driven by costs though.
Also, I was riding with my mate on his carbon Trek Slash in the Lakes the other weekend and some teenagers hiking who were obvs into MTB got all excited when they saw my Orange. I was as surprised as you, I'll be honest.
A boutique brand with a massive (confusing, overlapping) range doesn't figure. Hopefully this is them finally trimming that down
