If anyone is after dropper, I can recommend this. It has been faultless on my hardtail for last 8months.

Can't beat it for £79.99

https://www.rmcycles.co.uk/components/saddles-seat-posts/sdg-tellis-dropper-post-316mm-170-mm-drop__20941

For those that run one of these how are they for saddle "wiggle"?

I think the cartridge has gone on my Brand X dropper so looking for a new dropper that isn't north of £200*

* I do have a couple of Oneup V1 droppers and my son has a PNW and work well but even these were £150plus when purchase 🙁

Did you look at Ascend Components? NI firm basically continuing and developing the Brand X product line. Reasonable prices.

But I had an SDG Tellis and liked it a lot. Reliable, smooth and I don't remember much lateral play.

Would buy again.

Thank you on both counts.

I have dropped Ascend an email.

Looking at their spares, presumably their cartridges fit, it would be ~£44 vs £80 for a new post and a wee bit less landfill.

Fingers crossed.

Nukeproof carbon bars for a good chunk off

Ooh, that's a good one, one set of bars bought. Topcashback available too, 6% for a new customer.

Even if it is bloody house of fraser, these are fantastic bars- good shape and a little bit of comfort to them. Not as much as some but a useful difference.

Thanks!

I've ordered and fitted two sets of those bars and they're great for the price.

Both of them had price reduction stickers on them (£110ish to £60ish and finally £33), they've probably been sat on a shelf for months in Sports Direct next to a PS2 game and and a 3 pinter mug 🤣

As far as I can tell from the terrible frasers website, yes. They do have some other options but not as cheap, they have a higher rise 35mm one for £65 which still seems good but i don't know if the 35mm will keep that nice feel or be stiffer

Nukeproof bars arrived, exactly as described, 800mm x 31.8 x 25mm rise, same as my old ones. Lovely. And a big "£65 sale" sticker on it so it's obviously been in a shop somewhere like niel11s.

A bit more rise would be nice but honestly these are a good "stick it on the shelf" buy if nothing else.

Cheers for the NP handlebar tip, mine arrived yesterday and looks great - it will replace the 10-year-old Superstar bar on my enduro bike 🙂

Now just waiting for all the other random tat I added to the order 😀

Think it's the last day or so of half-price brake pads and discs at Superstar.

This may include their new 2.3mm thick rotors, which I don[t believe will work with my Shimano brakes - sadly.

I got this Worx pruning saw last week. Ive already got Worx equipment so £70 for a new battery and a chainsaw that can cut up to 10cm is gvfm. So far its worked really well, and could easily fit in a rucksack for trail maintenance (ok not as light as a hand saw)

For the Pikes, buying the Merlin ones and doing the 3.1 upgrade at service time would work out £100+ cheaper. Same deal ifbyou find the older charger 3 Lyriks, upgrade kit is ~£70 I think (+ service costs unless your confident DIY)

Charger 3 units not selling due to bushing problems? Be worth some research for anyone considering those but it was 27.5 fork I was looking at anyway. Some good looking deals there though.

I think they had about 400+ in stock at that time so I can't see them running out anytime soon!

For those who run the blueseal bearings, which ones do you use the normal, the Black Oxide or the Stainless Steel ones?

We have always just gone with the normal steel ones on all our Specialized bikes both for the headsets and pivot bearings and they have always been first class with no problems.

I've just got another order delivered today as we needed a spare set of the Turbo Levo bearings.

Added in a couple of sets of headset bearings and went with the black. Will run them side by side to see if there is any difference

Will be taking some out to NZ for our daughter in January as she put new ones in her Enduro before she went out for 12 months. 2 1/2 years later of regular riding they are still going strong.

Apparently stainless steel is softer than normal steel so stainless bearings are a false economy, just keep the normal ones in good condition and well greased and they'll last longer

Then why are ss guitar frets considered an upgrade then? Serious question, I’m not being argumentative.

Because normal guitar frets aren’t steel, they’re a nickel silver alloy

Because different use cases. Guitar frets are not a high wear or load but they are exposed to corrosive sweat from fingers. The SS resists corrosion better and the lower hardness is unlikely to cause an issue.

I only replace with stainless bearings, I get many times longer service but that's mainly because moisture wrecks steel bearing no matter how carefully greased they are.

Size - s/m or L/XL.  They don't sell many clothes so that suggests socks amongst the rest

Yeah, I wish someone did do it as a test. It's tempting, not tempting. Odd size stems, headset or tyre sizes are no use to me but equally I'd be oddly happy with a random ship clock/light, some socks and a bit of olive oil.

Tempting isn't it, but my guess would be click 'clearance' then sort old-new <£10, which gives you various hemp paraphernalia, bamboo bits, sunglasses, socks, inner tubes, soap...

To be serious for a moment, no, it isn’t.  They sell some awful crap so just imagine the stuff they couldn’t sell that is going into these bundles.  Just my opinion but I think it may as well be addressed ‘straight to landfill’

If I had 50 quid to throwaway, it'd be tempting, just to see whats in one. Loads of left side pedals, snow chains, socks, soap, clocks, flip flops with spd clips etc.

They should tease a few items, at least.

I'm stumpy of leg, so total post length is critical, as I'm both running shorter seat tubes and typically need as much drop as possible.
For anyone looking for the comparison tables, the OneUp V3 can be found here: removed link
..and this is the current Ascend options: removed link

OneUp does moar travel (up to 240) and more diameters, but for £99, if the Ascends are as good as their previous ones, it's a no-brainer for most use cases. I've run about half a dozen of the old Ascends over the years on the family's bikes, and they are the only ones that haven't needed any maintenance at all. The new ones look a bit different, and stock seems to be cleared out. Worth following for sure though.

[EDIT]Tell a lie - they do a slightly fancier one that goes to 130: removed link

I got one of these (200mm).  The adjustable variety.  So far it seems great.

Now that sideways slithering season is upon us, BikeInn have some Hillbilly tyres for cheap

Grid Trail 29 2.4 £19.99

Grid Gravity 27.5 2.4 £18.99

Grid Trail 27.5 2.4 £18.99

OK, postage starts from about £12 but even buying a single tyre it still appears to be cheaper than anywhere else if you want those specific tyres.

I ordered 3 tyres and some SP41. Delivery was about £15

They've got a good range of Vittoria  tyres too at fairly keen prices compared to UK sources.

I've ordered from them a couple of times. Price on the website is the price you pay. Duty and VAT are included.

Great, I got a 27.5 gravity to try on the back. At 15 psi with a Tannus Tubeless insert in there (Cam at NSMB tested that pressure with Tannus in slimy conditions and loved it https://nsmb.com/articles/tannus-armour-tubeless-inserts-tested/) ,

Hillbily T9 + Tannus should be seriously better on Winter roots (I hope). My Specialized KSL 1.1 should compensate for the weight and T9 compound drag. It has been fine on rear DH tyres like the DH16 in the past - one of the lovely advantages of a low power E bike.

At my age, I'd have to think really seriously about the rear tyre on a me-powered bike
