How exactly it this better than individual PSAs, you know individual ones are worth clicking on by the title, constantly checking this and going to the last page is an irritating waste of time for the most part. This is the last time I’m checking.

I’ve seen a few things recently that I would have thrown on this thread but couldn’t be bothered doing a thread for ??‍♂️

I quite fancy one of those ydun tents, but does anyone know how waterproof they are?

I can’t find any mention of them even being waterproof

I only really plan on going camping during nice weather, but I do live in England

Some Altura clothing on sale at bikeparts.co.uk (have found them cheapest for a few bits recently, quick post, and free over £20). Not sure if there's anything wild, but maybe worth a look if you're keen on their stuff.

@thenorthwind Best place for Altura is Amazon, stick it in you wish list and wait for the price to drop. Had Eskar trousers and shorts for just over £20.

Cotton tents are very waterproof in the real world. See below for more details

“The cotton has a hydrostatic head of 350mm, which sounds low at first, but it will definitely keep you dry. All our tents are constructed so that water is guided off the tent. Furthermore, cotton expands when it gets wet which seals the surface area”

~~~~~
plus you can reproof it easily and in an environmentally friendly way in a few years time
I’m stoked with mine, the quality is stupendous for the money
I don't think I've seen this posted as a PSA yet. There's at least 50% off a load of the Polaris gear on their website.
I ordered a pair of AM500 TX REPEL shorts and some coolmax socks not too long ago, the fit and quality seems pretty good.
I think it was posted a few pages back.
There was some discussion on the waterproof socks that work out at 8 quid each if you buy 3 pairs.
I bought some and they're pretty good. Crazy cheap at £8.
^ I bought a pair of those, size 9.5-12 for my size 9-9.5 feet. Real battle to get them on as they were a very tight. I sent them back as I was worried I would soon damage them just getting them on.
Shame, as they seemed well made.
Yeah, that's a good point. I'm an 8(ish) and went for the mediums as the blurb says to size up. They only just fit even though it says up to 9.5
They still have the brand new Nordisk tents available for £160
Thanks just ordered! I bought a Nordisk Utgard, groundsheet and bedroom in the Wiggle firesale but it's a bit too big for solo+doggo roadtrips, the Ydun will be a better size.
My refurbished Nordisk ydun tent also just turned up. Looks basically new. Feels really good quality , and very easy to put up in a few minutes.
Surely they haven't sent out a new one for 1/6 of the price!
Got mine today as well (non-demo £160 but still an absolute bargain), will be using it next week on the North coast 500.
I noticed OMM postal address is the same as Nordisk UK's address, I'm guessing this rubbish summer wasn't the best for shifting tents.
I got a refurbished Ydun. Very happy with it but the full price seems very high relative to their other larger tents. It had a bit of grass inside but still had the labels on
they’re probably not selling the discounted ones that quickly because it seems impossible to find navigating the OMM site. I could only find it via the link (or a specific Google search result link).
regarding the Nordisk Ydun tents mentioned above/previously I'm in mine as we speak! Quality is excellent - the guy line adjusters are simple but clever, everything is well stitched, substantial pegs, useful ventilation windows.....however, you'd have to be very good friends to have 4 of you in here. They are a spacious 2 man at most.
They are heavy due to the polycotton but are otherwise a bargain if you are looking for a decent carpacking tent.
Those tents are a good price to be sure, but I think for the same money I'd rather get a 2nd hand Force 10 mk4. (New they're just over 300 these days) plus the V/F10 is 7kg and the Nordisk is listing at 13kg.
The scout tent sides on the nordisk tents make a huge difference to internal space and they are both going in the back of the car anyway so I would take the Nordisk.
I’ve got a pair of those for work, don’t think they would be any good for riding , the double fronted material will make them heavy when wet
I’ve also got a few pairs of carharrt trousers and I wouldn’t want to wear any of them for anything more than popping to the shop on the bike.
if you want something to keep you warm over winter these have worked fairly well for me. Though I do wish they had some pockets on them somewhere.
@hellothisistom
Re the Carhartts (if they're the double front canvas) they're truly horrible to ride in.  Wide on lower leg so catch on chain.  No stretch.  Very heavy if they get wet and the bulky crotch seams rub.   (I wear them for work but won't ride to jobs in them any more)
I really like Rev Race Nordwand Pros (as a 'not cycle specific trouser that are great to ride in').  Stretch knees and arse mean they cope with pedaling motion really well. But they're not in the least bit waterproof.  Some kind of 'soft shell' version (ie not seam sealed) would be good but haven't found that yet.
If you can tolerate shopping at SD and their returns system if required, they have Nukeproof blacklines in large for £33 plus postage.
Nukeproof product page for sizing and detail:
The longer-legged rider will need large and then cinch the waist to suit.
So this is interesting.
Since we stickied this thread our revenue from affiliate sales has dropped by almost half. The reason as far as we can ascertain is because there are no longer forum topics being posted that include the name of the item/deal/offer and so fewer people are clicking.
So, I’d like to run an experiment and ask everyone to post a fresh topic for each PSA that you come across. As before if you spot a great offer you want to share with everyone start your post with ‘PSA: ‘
I’ll temporarily close this topic for a few weeks so we can see if there’s any difference. If it’s all purely coincidental that the number of outgoing affiliated clicks from the forum seems to correlate with the time this thread was stickied then I’ll open it up again.
Cheers All.
Mark
@Mark - I wonder if the issue with this thread is in the name - I was chatting to my wife the other night and she has no idea what the accronym "PSA" means and I also had to explain how it related to biking bargins. People who use the forums a lot might understand/follow the thread (knowing the tradition of PSA = bargin), but the title possibly means that more casual users skip over it because its not entirely obvious
I was chatting to my wife the other night and she has no idea what the accronym “PSA” means and I also had to explain how it related to biking bargins.
It's perfectly understandable that someone might not know what PSA means, but it's no more a STW-exclusive term than "LOL" is.  It probably dates back to Usenet.
right - there's 2 possible disconnects
1. that PSA means "public service annoucement"
2. that public service annoucements are (in STW terms) specifically bargin bike bits that save\cost you a tonne of cash
