Currently attached to a cheapy rim and non-boost (easily sortable) but I'm looking to upgrade my drivetrain to Shimano 12sp and haven't seen the hub alone for less than 200.

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/dt-swiss-dt240-on-asym-i19-xtrxc-rear-wheel/rp-prod187650

Don't know what ratchet it has, I'm presuming 18t but you never know.

Doubt it's microsplined, as you say, it's on a non-boost hub, and the pic is of a shimano 9-11 freehub. It'll be 18t on it as well, think the 1501s and above come with modified star ratchets, everything else 18t

It does say 'Shimano XTR 12-speed' as the freehub. I'm doubtful but have taken a punt. Its CRC afterall so free returns if it isn't. Add a £2 gear cable set and then have another £10 off for BC membership.

Even ifs its not microspline its still damn cheap for a 240. If it is microspline the freehub will work on boost or non boost.

How do you get XTR 12 speed without microspline? Didn't think they were compatible.

Still we shall see what turns up, you could be right. If it isn't 12 speed compatible, it can go back. I notice the picture shows a 28h setup, rather than the 32h advertised, so might not be relevant to the product as per normal CRC practice 🙂

I figured that with an Xr391 rim for 60 quid or so I'd end up with a nice light rear wheel.

It looks a great bargain if it's what you think.

Oddly, if you visit DT's 240 webpage the images of Shimano 12 speed versions also seem to show a standard freehub body.

I was looking for a 350 for my gravel bike. I've a spare freehub already so figuring I can flog the microspline and rebuild it onto a rim I already have.

Yeah, same pic, but i don't think 12sp shimano works on 142, the DT site only lists 148s as 12sp shimano.

Again, you could well be right, although I thought the hub width was dictated by end caps, rather than any part of the freehub body attachment system.

As in this:

https://www.vanillabikes.com/products/dt-swiss-ratchet-freehub-conversion-kit-shimano-micro-spline-12-speed-142mm-12mm-or-boost?variant=29417692594270&dfw_tracker=977-29417692594270&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIo_Hprenw5AIV04jVCh1bkQfuEAQYASABEgLdePD_BwE

It's more likely that the 142s are not routinely supplied with microspline, only the 148s, and it's been misdescribed on CRC!

THe dtswiss conversion page here https://www.dtswiss.com/en/support/conversion-charts/rotor-kits-mtb-shimano-micro-spline/ lists the same part for all the hubs (142 or 148mm versions). Does seem to suggest though that no microspline for QR.

You cant change 142 to boost with centerlock, pretty sure you cant with 6 bolt either.

DT list the same part number for 142 & 148 microspline freehubs for 240 (& 350) hubs - HWYABL00S2562S so it certainly works and hopefully you'll get what you want (12 speed XTR does imply Microspline).

I used one of the micro spline freehubs that are listed as 142/148 on my DT350 142 /12 setup and it worked fine..

the extra 6mm is on the non drive side with dt hubs..
you can get rear boost conversion kits for DT hubs with a 6mm longer non drive side end cap and 6mm 6 bolt disc spacer..

Whats that got to do with this wheel? Its a 6 bolt hub which you can convert easily enough.

I'm already running one converted this way with a longer end-cap, re-dish and something to shift the rotor out.

On the whole, their top-end hubs are pretty convertible. The only one I've taken a punt on which was more troublesome was one with an oversize 20mm axle.

You can buy a dt swiss XD freehub for 30 quid or so, sell the microspline (if that's what this is.. 🙂 ) and come out even at worst.

Come back!

I think I see what you were getting at now.

It's easy to convert a 6 bolt standard 'old' freehubbed 240 from non-boost to boost. But I'm now wondering whether the 'longer end cap' approach will work with a Microspline freehub - can't see any obvious products like the Boostinator kit that offer it. I've sent a message to Wolftooth to see if they can clarify.

Also, before anyone else takes a punt on this, disappointingly, the Wiggle description of the same wheel specifies a standard Shimano freehub...so chances are it's just business as usual from the CRC web description team...

Isn't the longer end cap 6mm on the left (and 6mm disc spacer)? If so microspline makes no difference.

Yep, you can.

There is a German company that makes a centre lock adapter (you will have to use a 6 bolt rotor though) & new end caps which turns a 142 into boost.

I have been running one for a while.

Predictable, but 36t ratchet might make me keep it...

Anyhow, where's mine? I ordered it before you!

Rik - it's 142

No idea.

I'm thinking I might keep it, in-fact I'm half thinking I might order a second and turn one into a front, would result is a wheel set around 1600g.

Dt Swiss DB spokes as well.

What's the rim like, I seem to remember it being somewhat on the narrow side (for modern tastes).

I'll probably keep it, because the 11sp Shimano freehub can be a spare for my other bike.

Yeah narrow, 19mm internal. Looks like a nice rim though. Think it would make a nice gravel bike wheel.

Did think about it, but spent 120 on a set of x1700 instead, already have 2 x 240 wheelsets, they are nice!

Any suggestions for a 30mm rim to put on in place of the 19mm one? Same spoke length would be good.

If anyone has bought this just for the hub and wants to part with the rim and spokes then please let me know. Im going experiment with 650b on my gravel bike.
Thanks
Ian

Will let you know. Going to measure my existing wheel. If this is any narrower then I may well want to swap and use the hub for my first wheel build! Don't suppose you are midlands based?

Damn, just went to order a second as got a new BC code today and they all seem to have gone.

Though there is also a 350 based version for a decent price (not as good!)
