The chainset and cassette weight more than the sun and SLX is only £30 more on merlin (flog the LH shifter, front mech and rings for £30)?

Great for a budget DH/FR build though - as long as you've got normal width BB shell.

That'll do nicely, thanks OP, that's Christmas for myself sorted.

Wonder if it's a short cage mech though. It says "wide ratio(n)" on it. If it's a short cage then you can "only" go up to a 40T with an extender.

Zee mechs are all short cage. They're different angles for narrow or wide range cassettes.

Wide ratio is designed for 11-36 but it seems to work on 11-40 but as you've said, not 42

Cheers!

Just need to decide if shorter cranks are worth it 🙂

As nemesis says above, all Zee mechs are short cage. The only difference between the models is the "bracket axle unit", the bit of metal that bolts to the mech hanger on the bike.

There's that new one-up cage doo dah that'll fix it isn't there?

Yep but then you're kind of making a more expensive mech though I've heard it does work well.
