£120'ish for the cranks doesn't make it cheap.

Is a klemschelle the correct option for a bog standard old school shifter on the bars that I can take the window off?

Cranks, though I was just going to stick a 104bcd ring on my old 3speed crank.

If your already 1x10 you don't need new cranks.

yep, designed to fit a standard freehub… that is the genius of the Shimano MTB 11spd stuff… and I can't thank them enough for doing that

Neat as it is - the SRAM GX cassette is about the same price as the XT, but it's lighter, and has more range.

Changing freehub is a pain, certainly, but if you're buying a new hub or wheel, GX makes more sense than XT (at least the cassette, I'd still be buying Shimano mech/shifter)

Nah, I have no love for tiny cogs with few teeth in a country with grindy wet dirty trials. And, add on the price of a freehub (if your hub can be converted) and you're talking twice the cost of XT. Sod that.

If you buy the bits from separate retails you can get it for the same price in the UK for the last 6 months or so. I guess it's nice to buy it as one package from one retailer.

Bike components €215 today... Bike discount do the same package with the crank thrown in for €234..but you need to add a chainring..(superstar 25% off today)

But the package isn't in stock at the moment with bike discount!!!!

But that would give you 1x11 for less than £200 (excluding shipping)

Edit: or you can just buy the XT ring along with the package for another €38, still less than £200 excluding shipping..

All sorted cheers for the heads up.

1 x 11 XT for two bikes, grouped it into 3 orders, 2 orders consisting of a casstte and rear mech with 10% off and £20 voucher. Plus the other order for 2 x Shifters with the 10% off again and another £10 voucher. 🙂

Vouchers will buy the N/W chainrings after Chrimbo.

plus 4% off with top cash back. 🙂

Just got to sell all my XT 2x 10 stuff now. 🙄

damn you and that discount code. 117 for for shifter, chainring and mech. Then when the other 20 voucher comes it will be 115 for crank and chain ring. 6% quidco on both and the potential of another 20 voucher to show for it off the second transaction. Thats about 200 all in.
I had no intention of doing 1x11 yet, but thats a pretty good deal!

How are you getting to 117? It's giving me 134

typo above. 117 is an odd combo of shifter, chainring and mech (not cassette), after using the VCL10 voucher. need to get cassette and cranks in 2nd order. Im idly hoping Hope release their 10-44 cassette in January and the other lot hit the 100 required to get the 20 voucher today.
