I have managed to source a 2008 Oro Bianco Brakeset (discontinued now - but still the best brakes I've ever used) at a STUPID low price. Whats more they have lots of other brakesets on offer. Mine has worked out at well under £150 for the set.

Anyhow, thought I would let you guys know:

http://store.formula-brake.com/special_offers

BTW the One brakeset looks like amazing value too

Thanks for the heads up, mate of mine swears by The Ones, best brakes he's ever used, and he got his cheap but still more expensive than this offer.

Just ordered a set of The Ones for the DH bike 🙂

Cheers, Rich

bugger! Went to buy a set of The One's and as I'm working in India it automatically puts my address country as India - and I can't change it!

Ah well, never mind....

Worth noting The Ones are the old lever design - nowt wrong with it, but just so you are aware. Awesome brakes by the way but they don't like winter much.

that's a mental price... paid £400 odd for my One's last year... have just ordered 2 sets for £335 delivered... thanks for the link mate! 🙂

Annoyingly, I purchased a set of Biancos off eBay for £105 secondhand just 2 days ago! Wish I'd know about this offer before doing that! 🙄

Cool, thanks! Like Psychle I just bought a set of Oros a couple of days ago but £140 for a set of K24s with hardware, rotors, hose shorteners... That's mad really. So bought another set, I can always ebay the used ones

No Ones left other than the expensive ones though I think. Also no 203mm/180mm sets for the Oros as far as I can tell (203mm rotors for Formula are damn expensive normally)

but they don't like winter much

What do you mean by this? 😐 Have I bought someting that can only be used in summer?

I ordered a set of 'The One' but after I'd paid I saw my PC had the automatic address of Germany! Yikes! I hope they'll work out I'm in the UK from the postcode......

I buckled and ordered some K24's to replace my Juicy 3's, wasn't sure about the tiny lever on the Biancos. Having second thoughts now and still within the 24hr cancellation period...ergh.

Yep intrigued too by the 'not liking the winter' comment.

I've been running Bianco and K24s for the past 3-4 years with no issues at all. Best brakes I have used (tho' I only have prior experince in Hope / Avid).

@ Whata - should I have plumped for the Biancos seeing as they are teh same price as the K24 or are they just shinier and just as functional?

Interesting comments about The One's in winter, mate has a set that give him no end of issues in the wet and recently I've noticed mine go "spongey" on prolonged wet rides. Anyone have similar experiences?

Yep that's exactly what I mean! I had this happen a couple of times last winter, and its the pads wearing down rapidly. The pads on high-end Formula brakes seem to sit closer to the discs than for example Hopes. I suspect it is one of the ways Formula reduce the weight. As such, if you are doing one of those lovely rides where it is continual mud, then this will wear away a pad in the space of a 3hr ride, even one which is well bedded in.
I now run a set of Hopes on my hardtail which sees most action when things are really grim, and leave The Ones on the full-suss.

Cheers heihei, I have The Ones on my hardtail and hope V2's on the full sus. As the full sus will probably not see much action till next year I may swop over the brakes.

Are you talking about with the OEM pads though or after-market sintered? The OEM pads on my Oro's only lasted 50km on a wet/muddy Merida Marathon (they're organic compound). Since replacing with SS sintered they've lasted ages (although to do squeal in the wet).

Are the levers the right way round on these, Or euro style and need swapping over?
EDIT flipflop levers, oooooooh!

They are a flip flop lever design so it's irrelevant.

FWIW, I (like a lot of others) had a whole world of issues with the early 'The Ones'. Well documented about inconsistent lever feel, massive variances in lever throw Vs pad wear, etc. The list was endless.

Apparently the new levers resolved a lot of the issues of the early brakes. Hope you have more luck than I did! Oh, and don't use Formula pads, they are made from cheese.

I've had the 'spongey formula wet ride' thing. I've decided it was rapid pad wear too. Towards the end of the pads life they don't seem to auto adjust too well.

I suffered mostly on the rear brake and solved it by reducing the disc from 180 to 160 - seems to get more heat in the pads more often. I've been using superstar sintered pads in the wet and I've still got the last bit of material left on the only set I used all last winter, approximately 40-50 off-road miles a week.

Has anyone heard anything since the initial order acknowledgement email? the email stated that the order will be confirmed via email but I've heard nothing back as yet. I'm probably worrying unduly.

Nothing back from them apart from the same email you got, I ordered mine mid day on Thursday. How long would you expect them to take?

I didn't expect them to be here yet, but the way I interpreted the email you had 24 hours to cancel, then would receive a confirmation if you still wanted to go ahead. I'm probably worrying about nothing, but if I missed the boat I want to source alternative brakes before this weekend.

In my email it quoted 2 day turn around, and the 24 hour cancellation period did not expire until mid day Friday for me - so I guess the 2 day execution period started today.

bigjim, I'm afraid I'm not in the country at the moment, India to be precise, the plan is to be here until June.

Battery holders were an interesting side project for a year, but I don't really have the time to devote to it any more. If you do a search on MTBR.com there is a guy who has copied my idea and is selling a range of pretty decent looking holders. Interestingly, he was one of the people who said that I'd never manage in my original MTBR thread 🙄

Oh, according to UPS, no-one was in to sign for my brakes today, hopefully they'll have more luck on Monday.

Cheers, Rich

Mine turned up today too. Both hoses too short some how and hate the lever feel. Full pad contact adjustment and new pads and the levers are coming much further back than I like, it will only get worse with pad wear too. May bleed again in the morn without the red pad separator in and with the pistons a little further out than they would be when fully on. Hopefully when I push the pistons back it will quicken up the bit point. It could also be down to changing hoses and bleeding when I'm struggling to keep my eyes open. Back to the drawing board.

The correct way to move the lever contact point further out is as follows: 1. Remove your wheel (or the rotor from in between the pads). 2. Squeeze the brake lever fully ONCE. 3. Replace the wheel/rotor. 4 Check if the lever contact point is to your liking. If it is still to far in, repeat the process until it is satisfactory. If after several tries, the point does not seem to be changing, try squeezing the lever blade fully twice during step number 2.

The ones. That may be the way to do it but surely if you pull the lever with the wheel out then try and replace the wheel the pistons will have moved out so you can't get the disk in. They are already slightly rubbing. Should I wind the contact adjuster in / less bite then try your method. I will give that whirl in the morning though. Cheers.

Got mine today as well - The One.

Now getting worried about what I've done: TheSwede's story + the lines are perfect length for a euro set up (front on the left) but too short for UK set up + the front adaptor is IS to Post rather than post/post - 🙁

I'm wondering if any old 5mm brake hose will work, as there are spare bits and bobs if you need to shorten the hoses, but nothing to be done to lengthen! A new hose = 32 euros + P&P.

Ben

(Agreed however - top PSA work WaFL!)

Have you thought of just swapping the hoses over?

Avid hoses are the same and avid 203 post mount fits without the tri align washers. Swap the hoses over ???

?? No, the front one is too short for the UK set up - it won't reach from the calliper (left fork leg) to the right hand side of the handlebars.

The levers are flip flop, so that don't matter.

Edit 2: Thanks TS - I'll look at the Avid stuff.

Aye. I guess to be fair, the line lengths and adapter types are detailed - I just pressed the buy it button before measuring.

My grandfather is turning in his grave - "measure twice, buy once" or something like that. 🙂

Ben

Edit: I could always go for a European set-up, how likely am I to kill myself?

I think I'm going to have the same issue, pretty certain I ordered the set with the 75/130cm hoses, don't remember seeing 2 different options when I placed my order.

Swapping the hoses and buying one new sounds like the cheapest option.

Cheers, Rich

Going to look at fitting mine today but a cursory "hold alongside the current setup" last night the hoses will be too short. As others have said looks like they would be spot on for a Euro setup.

Considering the price paid for them it's not exactly a massive inconvenience. I think I'll be taking a full Goodrich hose option, still a huge saving!!

PS There was only one hose length option on the Ones as I remember, all of the different listings for the other model brakes contained a few choices.

PS looking at the updated offer page they're now charging €210 for The Ones, whacked them up €60 for the next round of UK bargain hunters!

Got 'The Ones'. Fitted last night (rear hose too short so bodged routing for now), just been out for a test ride.
Without wanting to state the obvious - that is one seriously powerful brake!! Way way way more bite than the K18.

Fafed with bite point this morn. Got it really soon into the lever travel which is how I like it. Took out for a steep bed in and in no time at all they are back to where they were pre faf. Mega powerfull but I suppose I'm going to have to live with the bite point being very different to all my avids.

Used mine around Llandegla today, once bedded in they are a seriously good brake. The hose length was perfect for me, though they neglected to put any caliper bolts in the box and also supplied an post to IS mount. I'm sure the set I ordered was supposed to be post to post.

On a seperate but related note I went into Sixty Nine Cycles in Chester today for an adaptor and said missing bolts and would recommend any local riders check it out. Nick couldn't have been more friendly or helpful and it is a shining example of what a modern LBS should be. I won't be using anywhere else in the future. His coffee machine should be working soon too!
