They're Volvo branded but are the real Thule model. I have one - albeit not from this shop. It's a great price if you need one or more.

Offt, that is two of them added to the OAB fleet of bike carriers - that is less than half price and cheaper than many secondhand that I have been keeping an eye out for.

Sadly not the same discount on towbar rack...

Yeah these are an absolute steal and no different at all to the Thule branded. The Volvo badge has increased the value of my Skoda too.

that's a ruddy good PSA... i WISH my older thule racks would break so I could justify getting a set of these! Much nicer design...

I will have a pair of the older one's on Gumtree next week DrP - our old style Thule 530 ones are so old that they have started with some movement at the pivot. Upgrade time...

Seems to be between £15 and £40 on our Facebook marketplace and Gumtree - and the new ones that this PSA is for are £70+ each, second hand...

I bought one of the Volvo ones from Ebay a couple of months ago, its a genuine Thule one for sure.

£64 is an absolute bargain, shame I don't need one.

Even better deal than the one I got from Ford for £82. The Ford one seems to have a tougher finish on it too.

Absolute bargain???

It says RRP is £69.80, so it's only £5 off. Am I missing something?

Also available on eBay for almost the same price. I got mine a couple of weeks ago - 2 day delivery.

Thanks for the psa. I bodged some 598 tyre trays onto the older (591?) rack but seen on some other forums that others have had the trays crack by doing this - just picked up one of these so I can carry my plus tyred Stooge without worrying!

Cheers OP - we're sporting some very nice new Thule racks.

Even better, I've sold one of the old ones for £15 having used it for 15 years already. I've two more to go - anyone want a bargain budget Thule bike carrier in central Scotland?

Does anyone use these with a carbon frame? The clamp around the down tube gives me the willies so I've never invested but maybe I'm just being over sensitive?

I have used with only Carbon frames no current issues.

Anyone know the actual wheelbase that can fit on these?

Thule seem to say 1230 something mm, which is a bit short for an xl bike in these days of LLS! Are they being conservative or is that genuine max?

@owenp I've been unable to use the 591 or 598 rack for a long full susser because in order to get the clamp to a useable spot on the bike it needs to be rolled beyond the extent of the wheel holder.

Thanks - that's what I was concerned about. Rear rack life continues for me then!

I had to move the central mechanism bsck to get the arm to clamp the right spot on my medium Whyte 129, without the front wheel popping off the front. The back wheel isn't an issue, just the front

My kona is 1258mm officially and fits fine on a thule 591

Very easy to do, I don't know why it's not mentioned in the manual.

Measured today, I have a 121cm wheelbase and there's total 6cm of spare track visible = 127cm. I think you could safely overhang a fair bit of the rear wheel tray to fit something longer.

Thanks, this is brilliant PSA, have been looking for one of these to replace my Thule 591 (I got as an OEM item from Nissan on a discount many years ago!). Second hand versions go on ebay for over £70 (if in decent condition) so this is a bargain 🙂 I've managed to get my Kona (XL frame 1255mm wheelbase) on the old 591 with no issues although it's at the very limits, assume I should be able to do the same with this as the length is identical.

They seem to have increased to £69 with square bar fittings £7 each and postage on top taking them to £80 each so the ebay listing mentioned works out better for me at £71 each posted with fittings.

Luckily I am on Volkswagen T bars so it's just under £77 inc. postage so still a cracking deal for a new one and if something goes wrong it's easier to claim back through the shop than eBay.

Got mine fitted and used a couple of times. Had been using an old Thule 591 for the last 10 years, which was great, but was started to get a little corroded. This 598 (in Volvo badging and a nice gunmetal colour!) is much better and feels so much more secure with the torqueing options. A great PSA 🙂

Meant to say the wheelbase on my Kona is 1255mm which fits fine on the 598, although pretty at the very ends of the rack!
