Three men have been charged following the recent series of robberies on and around the Bristol to Bath Railway Path.

All of the men were arrested following three incidents last Tuesday night (February 17).

Guled Osman Ali, 20, from Eastville and Ahem Saed, 19, from Horfield, were both charged on February 18 with three offences of assault with intent to commit robbery and one robbery. They were bailed by Bristol Magistrates’ Court with conditions not to associate with each other, not to enter the cycle track and immediate surrounding area, and with curfews between 5pm and 7am.

The third man, Guleed Mahad Ali, 20, from Easton, was charged with the same four offences and remanded in custody.

Neighbourhood Inspector Olly Cosgrove said: “Since we arrested these men, no other offences have been reported to us, but we are still urging people to be extra vigilant. We still have additional officers patrolling the area and would urge people using the cycle path, particularly at night, to keep all valuables hidden – especially phones, which are even more obvious when lit up in the dark.

“We also want people to call us if they see large groups of men hanging around the area, including in Riverside Park.”

In total, 14 robberies and attempted robberies have been reported to police since January 30. Most have happened on the cycle track and the roads or paths immediately adjacent to it in Easton, between 7pm and 11pm.
