Hmm, interesting. Are people liking Superstar pads again now? I have (admittedly, pretty distant) memories of them falling apart

I think that's long gone. Superstar Kevlar are my go to pad, I think they are great.

I usually get their organic or sintered (both fine), but please do tell how the kevlar ones differ?

Match the shape up on here. Saint/Zee/Deore 4-pots are S4, FWIW

To me they feel like a half way house between sintered and organic. They have better life than organic, better feel than sintered (which i find feel very hard and on/off) and organic. They are queiter than sintered too. They just work with no issues anywhere really. They don't fade like oraganic do at high temps.

decent life but sintered would be better from that regard. I think they hit a nice sweet spot of performance and life.

+1. They are a fit and forget pad for me. No need to worry about swapping pads for the conditions.

Good timing, it was new bike day at the weekend so needed to buy some spares anyway.

As above, like organic pads but a bit better where the organic ones are a bit rubbish, i.e. they don't dissolve at the first sign of a wet/gritty ride. Not quite as good as Uberbike race matrix which IIRC add quite a lot of ceramics to the compounds but for £15 they'll do just fine for all but those dryest summer months when the trails actually have enough grip to make the most of better brakes.

Incase it helps anyone, I concluded from a little digging:
M420 = S4 (Saint 4-pot pads)
M410 = S2 (Deore 2-pot pads)

Good PSA - got 4 packs of kevlar for £15

Never tried these before but for this price it's worth a punt

Just checking - is A6 what the SRAM Code RSC would be using? It appears to be the closest shape but site says Guide, not Code...just checking before I buy some to discover they don't fit.

...and A3 for Sram Level T brakes.

I'm going to have to go find the Shimano ones as well as suspect they'll be needing replaced as well!

Thanks.

Yes, good psa...thanks

For what it's worth, never had the pad seperation issue and superstar pads have been my go-to pads for years. Did have the issue with Clarks pads though in the last year

"Grab them before they are gone forever"

So sounds like the end of SS doing pads

They said that a while ago and started doing them again during the COVID boom.

Can't remember if it was superstar or not. There was a comment in an interview by one of the UK brands thart started off selling imported brake pads, that the margins on 'cheap' brake pads were so small it wasn't worth it anymore. They were planning to drop them as a product because anyone can now go on alibaba with a few hundred quid and buy cheap pads to re-sell on amazon even cheaper than they can.

I guess the market for cheap-ish doesn't exist anymore. People either want to spend £15-£20 an end on SwissStop/Galfer/Trickstuff/etc and get the absolute best pads they can (because if you're riding round with £500 of Hope Brakes, you may as well). Or they'll go on ebay/amazon and buy pads form any one of a hundred 'brands' selling them at £3-£4 a pair (because for £40 you you probably buy a full set of Sram-R / Shimano M4xx brakes in a clearance sale). Or if you're stuck in you LBS in a hurry you get whatever brand they stock.

Thanks for the PSA.

Does anyone know what pad is required for Hope Tech 3 E4's?

Looking at their Pad identifier list I can see:
- H4K - Mono M4, Tech M4 Pads
- H10K - New E4 Pads

According to the Hope website the E4, RX4+, RX4-SH, Mono M4 use the same pad type. Does the new Tech 4 E4 brake have a new pad shape?

Cheers

Anyone know if 'H9S - New Hope V4 pads' will fit V4s I had fitted 2 years ago - pre the latest redesign?
No option for 'old' 🙁

Also worth noting you can have different types of pad in this deal, not just 4 of the same.

Check out the pedals- still half price. I love them.

Giraffe - M4 and E4 are slightly different I think - one slightly smaller than the other. You'll want to H10K I believe.

The Tech 3 vs Tech 4 only refers to the lever, not the claiper?

Anyone know which ones apply to Shimano XTR? S5 looks right but want to check before ordering a bunch.

I did used to like the Kevlar pads and think I even still have a few spares for my old M800 Saints not that I use those any more. Would quite like to try them again.

If that's current or recent xtr then yes, s5 is the pad you want

For this is not a spoon. That wasn’t me but I reflect the sentiment. Bearing in mind I know who make whose pads, the line about “investing in big name pads” just points how broken the marketing has made customer perception.

What’s the point in superstar selling great value products which are literally the same thing as stuff four times the price when people make their value judgements based on zero facts. The people who want cheap junk then go buy the 2 quid stuff. So stuck in the middle, but I’m not going to drop half a million on marketing budget to persuade cough bribe media to sing our praises

Sorry that was very cynical of me.

Anyway it’s a steal of a deal, just rationalising what we have in the warehouse as I’d rather spend the money on tooling up the new Matsuura to make medical/industrial parts where they aren’t blinded by marketing.

I just put 4 pairs of SRAM force pads in the basket and it came to £39 odd. Have I missed the deal?

Edit

Mine arrived next day too, thumbs up to SS and RM.

Ordered another 8 pairs of organic, as I'm hopefully heading to the Alps in the summer.

I wish I'd ordered 8 sets instead of 4 sets. I bought the Kevlar pads and liking them very much.

Is there a new PSA knocking about?
