SRAM X1 Eagle Boost Cranks w/Direct Mount Chainring. Fits the GXP bottom bracket, various lengths and chainring sizes. £69.99 from Wiggle.

I know it’s not the new DUB size - but a bit of a bargain considering it’s down from over £200 and has carbon arms. I’ve ordered a set - as I could do with a boost-compatible ring and a pair of crank arms, for another bike I’m renovating.

The listing is all over the place; it's not a photo of an eagle chainring and the Product Data section refers to 11 speed, but the rest of it says eagle 12 speed 🧐

^^ I did notice that. It’s not unique in being a bit of a shite description! 😉

If it turns up and isn’t 12 speed or Eagle - it will be going back. I can’t see Wiggle arguing and refusing free return postage. I took a screenshot in case! 🙂

I just had a look st this and was looking for a chain to go with it. SRAM PC-X01 Eagle 12 Speed Chain is listed in the product description as 9 speed ! I dare say these are all just silly errors and it is all 12 speed really, but it doesn’t exactly inspire confidence and I can’t be bothered with the hassle of returning stuff, so I think I’ll wait.

The XX1 Eagle cranks are also very much reduced. £156.99 - again in GXP. Only 170mm and 32T.

https://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-xx1-eagle-gxp-crankset/

It also has the same product data errors...

As long as we all get bargains from PSAs then it's not a problem how many times it's repeated.

Thanks both. I think I might have actually replied to a previous PSA thread about these now I come to think of it (doh). It’s all good though and I’ve finally ordered them so maybe I can make a more us3ful contribution to the next thread 🙂

Am I right in thinking it's just the offset on the ring that makes these boost? (3mm versus 6mm on old stuff)

Thanks for the PSA just ordered some to replace my XO cranks, nothing wrong with the XO's but the colour scheme on these match much better.

so, these are only 'boost' because of the chainring offset?

So i could replace a normal set of shimano 24mm spindle cranks with these and just put a 10sp NW chainring on?

24mm and using the GXP standard bottom bracket that is easy to get hold of - or Hope do adaptors for their own external
BB’s.

As long as the chainring has the SRAM mount you can use 6mm o/s, 3mm o/s that it comes with or even 0 o/s to get the best chain line. You can then sell on the boost chainring to recoup some of the cost.

Yes, I fancied trying a 30T chainring on my GX Eagle setup this year, but ended up buying these (with 30T) instead as I was almost getting the carbon cranks for free 🙂

Boost & non-boost X-Sync NW chainrings are available from other 3rd party suppliers.
Switch system from One Up looks like an attractive solution.
Absolute Black
Blackspire
Superstar
etc.

Maybe it’s taking the point out of buying carbon cranks for weight saving, but steel sram direct mount chainrings aren’t expensive at all, and they last ages!

I’m confused @poopscoop they had definately increased in price in my basket, the xx1 have gone up from £260, but now the x01 xsync are £129.99 https://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-x01-gxp-x-sync-11spd-crankset/

And the £69.99 are still £69.99
https://www.wiggle.co.uk/sram-x1-eagle-gxp-boost-crankset/
GX1200 £44.99

Damn it!

If they are still at this price in a day or 2 I might relent! Trouble is... I'll need a new oval ring (I'm a convert) and a new BB adapter or even BB.....

So my bargain starts getting expensive!

But it's stealthy, 24mm.... and CARBON,CARBON! Gahhhhh!

Well your get decent money for the Sram ring if you insist on oval, which I’m running at minute and frankly I can’t see any benefit...only chaindrops bizarrely. BB didn’t you need to change yours anyway? Just buy the cranks and keep in stock until you need to buy a new Bb again, which even if your current one is new is likely only a couple of weeks away lol

365 day return or sell them on eBay if they don’t work out,
I’m holding out too I’d need a new bb and I like my purple raceface cinch

BB alright for the moment but no way I'm going to press a new unserviceable Hope BB into a carbon frame on a semi regular basis. Putting in the Hope one made me sweat enough.lol

Hmmmm... I see my BB41 can run a GXP crank with a shim.... So I could run the bb41 into the ground using the X1 cranks, then go for a serviceable bb when that one dies...

As you said,I can sell the oem ring easy enough, also the Turbine cranks for that matter. Oh,I like the oval rings as they dramatically reduce knee pain for me. Not really bothered about claimed "efficiencies" same as you.

Well, thanks a lot guys! NOT!!

Just ordered the crank for £59.... Didn't think to order the shims.... But I won't use the crank for a while anyway.

Obviously justified this to myself by saying I'll need a 24mm crank soonish anyway.... and that I'll obviously pedal faster on carbon cranks....

Will be selling the oem 32t ring though.

Ahem.... 😊

Blimey.... Don't think I'll bother with a genuine Eagle oval, too expensive.... I'll be fitting a Works/AB oval I think.

I've been running an AB ring for ages on my gx eagle setup anyway and they are great.👍

I think you are right mate. I'm excluding the new BB cost as I will need that soon one way or another anyway.

Quiet a bit of choice for the oval ring these days.... Though I'll probably pay the extra for the AB one as they are so pretty.lol

Okay - I’ve ordered some too (see my post on wobbly race face next rally cranks.....)

So what actually is gxp? Is it just a 24mm b/b? I have a Hope pf30 currently - I think you can get an adapter for that? Or could I use a 24mm hope b/b?

In truth I'm not sure either. Someone mentioned these are oem? Perhaps that's why.

As long as they are carbon and have an eagle ring on I'll be happy.👍

Wasn't going to bother, then I saw people selling them on ebay for £160 and thought nothing to loose either way. I was really after 170 32 tooth but ended up with 175 30 tooth, but cant complain for the price of a chainring.

I either need an adaptor for a raceface bb90 to gxp or a non boost chainring depending on what bike they go on.

Cheers for the PSA OP

You dontnuse wavy washer on GXp I don’t believe, my descendants don’t. The smaller non drive side axle fits into the bb so no need to preload. Like I say my current GXP cranks with hope bb have no way of preloading, have no play and are frankly superb

The wavy washer is to hold the DS seal against the bearing. You wouldn't need one with a Hope BB as the seal can't move anyway, but for a lippy contact type seal you need one. One came with my Wheels mfg. bottom bracket (a gxp specific one) as they have that type of seal, it also came with some washers in case the gap was too big for the wavy washer to bridge.

You can get O-rings off ebay etc. to do the same job apparently.

GXP is 24mm then tapers to 22mm on the opposite side so you need a GXP bottom bracket.

A standard Shimano 24mm will not work.

A standard 24mm bb will work with spacers eg the ones for Hope. I used to use my SRAM cranks with a Hope BB and Hope spacers on the NDS, it worked fine and didn't need a wavy washer. And of course, the DS cups/bearings are the same whichever, if you like to pick 'n mix.

Greyspoke & dhrider have the BB compatibility sorted for external threaded BB’s.

As for the X1 Eagle 12 speed question, these look like OEM products - as they come with no aftermarket packaging.

I imagine these are fitted from the SRAM factory with Eagle rings for a production bike.

I think the wavy washer thing is the same for PF92 types, my gxp cranks are currently in a frame with a PF92 shell. The difference from external threaded cups is the way the cups fit in the frame and the frame bb shell. The bearings are the same type and the same distance apart and most bb manufacturers probably use the same seals as well.

Okay - I currently have a hope pf30 bottom bracket. Can this be adapted for gxp or do I need to get a hope 24mm b/b for the hope adapter to work?

Hope that made sense!!

Mine arrived yesterday. As others have said these look like OEM (no packaging) but come with the Eagle (x-synch 2) chainring. Not surprisingly they were a straight swap for my GX Eagle GXP cranks (5 minute job). I’m using a 24mm Hope BB with the Hope GXP adaptors. No need for any wavy washer.

Perhaps a bit more surprisingly the total weight saving over the aluminium GX Eagle cranks was 67g and that includes dropping from a 32 to a 30 tooth chainring. But they look nice and barely cost any more than the chainring, which is what I was after.

I tend to get a bit of heel rub on cranks, so it was nice to see that they come with a bit of tape in the relevant area already.

Oh and the X1 Eagle chain that Wiggle marked as 9-speed in the description is, of course, 12 speed really.

564g according to my kitchen scales. That’s as they came, minus the protective plastic cap over the splined end of the axles and the two pedal washers in a bag that were zip tied to the other crank.

GX Eagle cranks with 32T ring were 631g in the same state on the same scales.

If i wanted a 10sp chainring, what do i buy? It has come with an x-sync 2 ring that i think is eagle 12sp.

Perhaps a bit more surprisingly the total weight saving over the aluminium GX Eagle cranks was 67g

By shear coincidence i'd seen those sort of figures just before the Wiggle deal happened - it made them annoyingly hard to convince myself to buy!
