Window shopping at 4 in the morning (can't sleep) and saw this on the alpkit website. Seems a bargain!

Thankfully sold out in my size, or I might have to explain to Mrs_oab the different frame stickers...

Why not? I was considering running this with a 650b Pike (non boost) and normal width 650b wheels when looking for a bike about 6 months ago but I’m sure it was nowhere near this cheap (I thought the frame was about £300 originally not £199).

Maybe the BB might be a bit low but I don’t think it would be a drama. I went for another 650b frame that can take up to a 2.8” tyre and running it with non plus stuff and it’s fantastic fun. Corners like a dream.

Frame was £349 down to £300 for a while. This is a genuine bargain in my book.

Bottom bracket is quite low, not sure running it non-plus would work but worth a try.

cheers. it's for my wife who wants to get cycling. i'm wondering if a relativly slack frame with a low BB is a good place to start.... 🙂  thoughts?

also , she is 168cm, 5ft 6". She says she doesnt want the top tube too close to her  (low standover height..)

Smal Riders between 5ft 2in and 5ft 7in

Medium Riders between 5ft 6in and 5ft 10.

better with small?

I was going to get one. Then the grammar put me off

But mostly, they are to be rode and enjoyed. Easy to ride and maintain. And funner. Much funner.

It's just not good enough.

Anyway, why the 650b questions? It says its a 650b hardtail...

Bargain!

Details of new/revised Transmitter out later today according to IG

better with small?

Personally I'd say small...decent length eTT at 593mm & 410mm reach on small. Medium has 17.5" seatube so a dropper may be an issue.

If it's 605b+, will it run 29er wheels? Could be a cheap winter HT..

I know for the Carbon Transmitter it takes a 31.6 dropper, I guess same for ally but not 100%.

Just had another look on alpkit, think I found the new transmitter. Says V2, different colours, angle changes and geometry tweeks but also designed for 150mm fork.

V2 is minor tweaks and new paint from the V1, the new bike they are releasing details of today would be the V3. Be nice if new one took 29" wheels, but incoming V3 is the reason the last V1s are so cheap!

Version 2 (the ones on sale) is a little different to v1, bit longer and with XL size. They handily show the V1 geometry under the V2 specification.

Anyone recommend forks and wheels to go with this?

Love mud wheels from sonder are decent if quite heavy.

Forks, if buying new I'd probably go for some McQueen's by x fusion

V3 is modest changes then (prefer V2 cable routing FWIW).

Absolute bargain. V3 at full RRP is a bargain, £150 for a sorted frame is incredible.

I’d love the bottom range Transmitter as a play bike.  But the Recon is going to be a pig I’m sure....

Hmmmnnn. Need a bike for Mayhem (as not sure the Rocket is appropriate). Was going to look for a cheap 29er, but I like plus tyres...

I quite fancy doing this but as a bike building newbie- what will it cost me to put a basic spec together, and will it be a life affirming joyful experience, or an expensive pain in the bum?

You'll have to get googling yourself! 😉

If you don't need a bike in a hurry and are prepared to shop around you can get some real bargains and get a great bike with no duff parts for a decent price.

If on the other hand you need a bike quickly and having matching brand finishing kit matters it could be a pain!

Have to say, the colours on the new version are gash and hate the glossy paint. Like the internal cable routing, although there doesn’t look to be any rubber grommets in the entry points, so they’ll possibly rattle like billy oh!

does anyone know if this headset will fit

https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/brand-x-headset-integrated-tapered-steerer/rp-prod130924

size IS42/28.6 | IS52.2/39.8

where as the alpkit one listed for the bike

https://www.alpkit.com/products/love-mud-rumour

IS42/28.6 | IS52/40

The differance in price is £13.50 vs £30

I wonder if all remaining stock will be bought up and after a bit of re-stickering we'll see a load of Sick bikes being delivered?

tempting, but what is plus like on tarmac? I would need my hardtail to be OK for a tarmac commute during the week too.

What are you used to commuting on? How long is the commute?
I didn't find a huge difference between my 29x2.3 over 650x3.0 on roads. A little slower, but negligible in feel for me.

If you buy it with a Cane Creek Helm fork it's £850, which is not far off what you'd pay for the fork on its own (£854 on CRC). So you could buy one and basically get a free awesome frame.

I think the FSA C-40-ACB No:42 headset - note: the ACB bit matters - works, but I'd check with the guys at Sonder to be 100% sure.

Or this, I think, which seems to be the same spec as the FSA one:
