Apologies if already covered elsewhere but for such a good set of tyres, even as a spare set, £13.99ea is a bargain even when adding postage.

Lots of other decent tyres available at great prices too, via current 30% additional discount on tyres and tubes at On-One.

Trail I’d say - the chunky monkey isn’t a huge 2.4 in 650b size (appreciate osa is 29er) and the Smog is xc towards trail for me.

Just stuck that pairing on my hardtail (replacing a Magic Mary and DHR2) and it feels so fast and fun now. Obv helped by dry trails but I was loving it on the night ride last week.

On-one tyre virgin here.

The Smorg and Chunk..... What would be best at the front, ditto rear?

Would they be a good choice for the summer?

Thanks guys! Nice psa op.👍

Monkey front and Smog rear. Made by Maxxis so sizing is as per their normal sizing. The 2.4 is still a decent sized tyre, well worth £14!

The 2.25 Smorg is the same size casing as the 2.3 Maxxis. The 2.4 CM is the same as 2.5 Maxxis.

Casing is the same as EXO.

I have run the Smorg on the back with a Minion DHF or CM up front.

I prefer Minions but for the money they can't be beaten to be honest.

Excellent summer tyres, in my opinion. I’ve been using CM’s front and rear for dry, rocky stuff in Greece for the last four years. I only get a couple of months out of a rear but at the price they are I’m not complaining.

I currently run minion front and high roller2 in the rear, looking for something less draggy for twentyfour12.

Smorgasbord onto the front if the weather is good?

There is nothing tech, so just want a predictable cheap front 29er with not too much rolling resistance.

If the weather is good it will be overkill but then again when is the wyevwr good for 24-12?

I did fine with Vittoria Mezcal f&r last year...

Have Smorg/Chunky on my ‘big’ bike and no issues though.

Cheers, thought it might be.

Will keep looking for cheap xc tyres then.

I wouldn't use a Smorg on the front, the shoulder knobbles aren't bitey enough. Pleasantly drifty on the back though.

I use a smorg as front tyre in 29er form and whilst it is a round profile, I dont really notice a massive lack of grip unless compared to something like a magic mary

Are they tubless ready ?.

I've had good and bad days with them Tubeless... I asked on-one and they said yes... .but i have had issues getting them to seat at times.

IMO they're heavy and burly.... and BIG ! but others above seem to not agree.

They are heavy

I run mine tubeless ok and it went up fine but I find it weeps quite a lot.

Good tyres.
But not great.
I find Chunky surf's around if there's any mud, seems to lack edge bite as well. Smorgy is good, but feels a bit draggy for a relatvely shallow tread when I brake hard.
Good for summer.

On size, context is important.

Compared to the 2.35 Magic Mary and 2.3 Dhr2 that the CM / SB replaced for the summer they aren’t that big.

Certainly compared with the dhf 2.5wt and dhr2 2.4 wt on my FS they are tiny.

I’ve found them really fast rolling, but perhaps if you’re used to skinny XC tyres they’re heavy and bulky? Other comparison tyresnive had in the last few years are 2.25 Nobby Nics and 2.4 Conti Mountain Kings. I’d say the Smog seems smaller than the NN’s but the CM might be a touch bigger.

First post so be gentle folks, just looked & currently running Schwalbe Smart Sam 29x 2.25 front & rear, also noticed front is mounted wrong way around lol. Rear is starting to get a bit low on tread so wondered if these are suitable replacements? The ones on seem to have done everything I've wanted although the front does push when it's very muddy. I only ride bridleways, canal sides & roads to get to & from bridleways nothing extreme.

Welcome to the forum.

Smart Sam is ok, that middle line will help the tyre roll well.
If you want a bit more wet/mud grip, swap your front smart sam to the rear and add another fast rolling front tyre that doesn't have the continuous middle line of nibbles.

The Smorgasbord above will roll more slowly, but will offer more grip.
