Im sure it says 180mm max in the Q & A part of the product description

I may be incorrect....

Had to fit a 180 Shimano adapter that I had in my collection otherwise the pads were significantly offset from the rotor but that way it's spot on.

You can get 185mm rotors pretty readily. Add an m6 washer or two if it needs spacing out.

I'm slightly bemused as to why they ship with a +23 because as far as I can see, TRP only make 180mm discs, not 183

Sorry, have i misunderstood?

Is the rear of the frame a native 160mm, and it comes with a +23mm adapter?

Im away from my frame at the moment...

The frame is native 160. It doesn't come with any adaptors. The TRP brakes that were also on offer apparently come with a 23mm adaptor.

I'm running a +20mm and 180mm rear disc, because that's what I had. A 160mm rear disc seems a bit small to me for a bike like this.

@Kramer if you go onto CRC website and look at the Q&A from the Big Al page, its in there.

@breninbeener, interestingly it's not mentioned anywhere on the Marley pages?

Also the Big AL seems to be almost sold out.

@Kramer sorry i was talking about the Big Al. Sorry for any confusion! Maybe the different design and construction is at play here? If it will physically fit, I'd be happy to run a 180/183/185

Have another then. Don't overgroom though.

@nickfrog, thanks, and it's a lovely looking bike, however the reason that the other photo was making me itch, was because of the brand clash of TRP brakes on a Shimano bracket.

😂. I had never fitted one there actually, just an experiment. Is it supposed to be on the non drive side? It's gone now anyway. Not even sure if those pump holders are normally also designed to also allow a bottle cage on top?

Yes, for weight balance. 😉

WRT to stacking them with bottle cages, it depends on the pump holder and the bottle cage, but in most cases you can no problem.

180 rear max rotor size but .. having run a 203 on the rear of my last Big Al for 18 months   I cant see why i would change that on this one .  Helped coming off Hevellyn  yesterday 🙂    Besides if I get 6 months from the frame thats the cosat of replacing all the bearings on the full sus over slop season . But im sure it will be nothing but fine .

I'd have no issues sticking a 200/203 on the back either. Just means I still need a different mount

My Big Al now has some more mud-friendly tyres on. One thing I'm finding though is that with a 140mm fork I'm getting a lot of pedal strikes. Was very close to hitting buy on a 160mm Fox 36 - but instead I've taken the sensible approach and got me a 160mm air spring for the Pike.

@kramer
It's a basic Pike RC - 2018 (came off a YT Jeffsy). Tyre is a 2.4 DHR 2, mudguard is a MuckyNutz short

I have put a Mucky Nutz too. I like the double sided velcro tape is comes with. Loads of clearance left too.

That’s a more modern fork which have bigger arch clearances than the previous generation I think.

Does anyone have a Big Al in medium that they have paired with the 200mm Brand X dropper?

How far will the dropper go into the seat tube? Im thinking i may have ordered a dropper that is too long.

My frame is at a mates due to some building work going on here at the mo, so i cant measure. I have the dropper, and i dont think it can be shimmed, so id really like to know the total length from centre of BB to saddle rail with the dropper fully inserted but fully extended.

Thanks

Ian

^^^^ let me pretend to answer your question. I believe my Trans X 170-200 is the same length as a 200 Brand X. They come from the same mould after all.
I have a L Big Al, the seat tube of which if 30mm longer than a M.

I have managed to slam my dropper completely but I don't know how much clearance is left of course!

So worse case scenario your dropper will have to stick out 30mm out of the seat tube if I have zero clearance which I doubt.

Why don't you measure your dropper from its lowest point (the cable clamp I think) to where it would have to meet the seat collar so that I take an educated guess in situ?

@breninbeener

I checked and that measurement is 305mm on your dropper. But in fact, some of that is not even the full diameter as it's the actuator, perhaps 30mm at the bottom, check the blueprint on CRC.
From the outside of my L frame it does look like the bend starts at 320 so take 30mm off for your M frame and even 290 should be fine. I am therefore 99% sure you'll be fine. But make sure that even slammed you're comfortable at full extension and that your toes touch the ground, which is were and adjustable travel dropper is invaluable.

@Kramer apologies, my question was a bit lacking in detail! I meant smaller rear on the 29 frame, not larger on the 27.

But looking at the geo charts, I think a -2 angle set on the 29 and a 150 fork would actually be way better geo for me than a Big Al would

@submarined - I'd be a bit concerned about pedal strikes in that configuration?

Possibly not such a big issue with shorter cranks.

Marley 29: Kermit vs. Big Bird.
Those with a green, what's the paint like? Just a solid gloss bright green or is there some jazzy metallic/pearl business that's hard to see on a photo? I'm leaning towards green but mac89's pics make a strong case for yellow.

@borosilicate it’s a plain bright green (powder coat?) exactly as it appears in the pictures on here. It does look good, but it’s nothing fancy.

Yep, just a solid, quite bright green. I like it but it's nothing fancy, no fleck or sparkle.

Actually the first time I've ever chosen a colour. All my previous bikes/frames have been second hand or only available in black.

I was going to get everything (stem, seatclamp, BB, pedals) in Nukeproof copper initially, which I thought would look decent with the white. When the Horizon Pro wheels came up with silver hubs, I decided to go all silver with the white and black. Only bit of colour will be the tan walls, so hoping they don't look daft

I have now sourced a new 200mm Fox Transfer at £120 from a fellow STWer as it didn't fit his frame. I thought I had missed out on them but it appears not.
I don't really need it but at that price it will match my 36s quite nicely. World of weirdos 😂.

Only issue might be that the collar and the seat clamp are very shallow which is supposed to be a good thing but in my case might mean it's a bit too short as my Trans X is perfect at 200 (I insist on slamming).

If not, it means that my adjustable Trans X 170-200 will become available if someone is interested. Only 300 miles and could be extremely useful/flexible for someone wanting to optimise/maximise travel on those frames.

TAFKASTR. Silver will work well as it shows off the machining. I can't say the same thing about tan sidewalls, which I (subjectively) don't get. The equivalent of a chesterfield sofa in a bike workshop IMO 😂.
