Truly one of the most barbaric fights in boxing history and one I'll never forget , Documentary is on ITV for you sassenachs at 10.35 and STV at 11.05 for us Irn Bru guzzlers.
I read the book on the tragic fight and the aftermath for McLennan and It was powerful stuff.
Nice - good interview with Benn on BEEB website last week.
Saw his last fight against Collins at MEN. Fantastic era for British boxing, Eubank's chin was ridic. The fight against Watson was something else...he was beaten until that punch. Warriors !!
I remember that fight ..... Prob one of the most memorable fights I've ever watched
Yep, I remember that fight all too well too. Mclelland was well up for it as soon as the fight was announced and looked like he was going to do some real damage. Thought it was all over early doors when Benn was virtually knocked out of the ring. But he somehow got up and together the pair produced one of the most brutal scraps in recent years.
The ending was tragic though. Remember staying up til the middle of the night watching the updates on Sky News.
Warriors to the end.
That was the best era for British boxing imho, classics.
One of the most amazing fights I ever saw. THe heart and fight Benn had was amazing and now we have Audley Harrison
That whole 'mouthpiece' thing just came back to me. Sadly, the signs were there. And that Stan Johnson is a right ^&$@.
Awesome fight, the G man was coming to bust Benn up! Nigel Benn had the heart of a Lion!
Good programme so far.
I remember bouncing around the room, cheering them on for an amazing fight only to be sitting completely deflated watching the consequences.
Never felt the same about boxing again, and think of this fight everytime I watch a fight.
Just realised I spelt Geralds name completely wrong, There was word that Benn was hypnotized by Paul MacKenna before the fight and to see the comeback It wouldn't have surprised me.
If memory serves me correctly Benns fights vs Eubank were also fairly special.
Just to add as Its only just begun In Scotland that Benn and Roy Jones Jnr have regularly contributed money to G mans finances and charity.
Always a buzz when benn fought and when he fought Eubank! They were probably the golden days of British boxing (for me anyway).
There was word that Benn was hypnotized by Paul MacKenna
Maybe. Can't remember. Plenty of stories about Steve Collins being hypnotised before taking on Eubank. Remember the pictures of him pre-fight?
That was very emotional
Just finished. Very very sad. Thats all I can say.
