The news you've all been waiting for - and just in time for Easter!
LAGGAN WOLFTRAX WILL REOPEN THIS FRIDAY (April 3rd).

Forestry Commission Scotland have been working hard over the few last months and are ready to reopen the Orange, Upper Red and Black trails.

Even better than that, Laggan Forest Trust is pleased to announce the opening of the long awaited Laggan Wolftrax Centre and cafe - also on Friday 3rd April.

We are really looking forward to seeing everyone back at Wolftrax and in our new cafe very soon.

There is forestry work continuing on the other trails - please take note of all signage and watch out for timber trucks and machinery to allow the work to continue as quickly as possible.

Obliged. I nearly went over last week but checked the FC website just in time. Hope the bogs in the new cafe are warmer than the old ones - so cold last time I went that I had second thoughts about getting completely naked.

I've just been thinking recently that I could do with a trail centre day out and was going to start a thread asking what Fort William was like. I'll take this for the time being.

😆 Nah - just never been round those trails (I'm not a frequenter of TCs). I'll probably head over one day just to try them out anyway.

Am I understanding that right, the lower red's still shut?

@Scotroutes, some really good riding at nevis range, just don't do the waymarked 10utb route unless you really like fire roads. Worth picking up the map as you can work all the good stuff from the 10UTB route into an extended world champs lap. Starts out a bit glentressy but once you're off the open hills it's much more rough and ready, feels nicely clawed out of the ground.

I've posted a question asking that Northwind.. Waiting on a reply...

Looking to find out about Laggan Brown and Honey Monster as well.. I think they have had forestry works over that side of the road so not sure if they are gone now..

Any of you northern guys have any knowledge of the trails at Kinveachy Forest at Aviemore?

Lower Red isn't just closed, it's devastated.
Any of you northern guys have any knowledge of the trails at Kinveachy Forest at Aviemore?I've wandered in there on occasion. It's mostly just a question of following your nose and doing a bit of exploring. Some of the descents involve "mandatory air". Those are the ones I avoid.

@northwind @gavstorie the machines are on their way to the lower red now - serious amounts of windblown trees to be removed. Will be a while before that area is safe.
Latest reports are some trees down at the top of the Enduro trails but not bad after that. Harvesting has currently stopped there as the machines were drafted in to help at Wolftrax.
Orange, Upper Red, Black and cafe all open this Friday 🙂

@scotroutes to be fair it's only the bit below the fire road that's devastated. There are also areas right next to the upper part of the Lower Red that need clearing and the machines need a wide berth - hence FCS keeping it closed for a month or two while they get stuck in...

What's the temperature in the toilets please? (The rooms, not the actual toilets). And how many hooks on the back of each door?

@thegreatape sorry to say it's really toasty in the new building - huge amounts of insulation and a biomass boiler. We had to turn the heating down today and that was with fresh snow on the ground and 50cm high roofalanches from last night's storm!

I guess the green is still shut?

Anyone know when the uplift starts again?

ooo fantastic I'm staying in inverness at the start of June and this was one of my planned stops. Looking forward to my first visit there, last time it was snowed off.

Didn't see the update about the warmth. So looking forward to that - I do a lot of hanging about with the younger one when the others are off riding (we ride too, but not as much!)

Good, I'm up at Aviemore this weekend for a weeks holiday so i may just take the tripster down to attempt the black on it, along with a cheeky run round some of the routes i did years ago roundabout Loch Laggan and down strathmashie way

scotroutes don't forget my invite when you go to Laggan. Also, possibly the same day if you'd like, I can show you the good stuff around the 10UTB course.

Will I need a special 27.5 Enduro Wolf Horn to add to my quiver?

So, let's get this right:

Let's say a group or even a couple of you are doing the upper red.

On the decent, the poor person at the back has a mechanical & has to stop, unless he or she is the one with the Wolf Horn there is a chance they could be eaten alive?

Excellent!

Would they not be better setting up said Wolf Horns every so often by the trail?

Survival of the fittest ain't it?, that's why it's beneficial to ride with slower folk.

Don't be stupid, that's sharks. There are no sharks at Laggan. They only thrive in the wet trails around fort william

Went up today with the boy. Did the upper red and orange followed by burgers in the new cafe.
Food and coffee was very good - not sure how long the whiteness of it all is going to last though.
