Why would we need rain jackets? Winter is over, it's a beautif...ah...dammit..there's the rain
Bargain 😯
Small enough to pack in a back pack, I always have a waterproof jacket in mine.
Singletrack review.
It’s packable, it’s light and yet has everything you need and nothing more. Probably the most waterproof yet breathable jacket I’ve ever used; yes, it’s that good.
Thought ooo half price saw that £120 was half price 😯 ... quickly close tab.
exactky what I thought. errr NO!
If it genuinely was waterproof AND properly breathable then I'd actually consider it, but I've not found a jacket yet that is. Then again I've never spent £240 (or even £120) on a cycling jacket.
after some recent monumentally wet rides, I'm seriously tempted.
What makes one Gore-Tex 3-Layer jacket more breathable than another? I assume that high end jackets all tend to have similar details/construction tricks and that nobody's found a way of poking more holes in the jacket to let more fug out than their competitors.
That's 14months Zwift subscription !
yeah, but you'll be a lot drier than if you were riding in your living room.

ENDURO
My 2p, bloody love my lightweight Odlo jacket. Got mates rates that helped but it's lasted incredibly well and seems to refuse to die. Would recommend
Problem for me is that whilst they're a bit more breathable, the expensive ones are no less likely to rip when you crash. Discovered that the hard way.
So on that basis I just buy the cheapest ones I can find and accept a bit of sweating.

My Protective one is great. £60 from Edinburgh Cycles yonks ago.
Good for Sweet Protection that they can find enough mugs to pay their prices, but I ain't one of em. I mean, if they can sell it at £120 and make a profit, imagine the mark up on the RRP!
Yeah but....reduced by £120!?! I might buy a whole bunch and take next week off 🙂

TBH I think people just misunderstand what it means. You often hear "this is supposed to be breathable but I'm too hot", breathable does nothing for heat at all. And then "It's supposed to be breathable but I'm sweaty", yep, you still sweat, it's just that it can get out. So lastly, "It's supposed to be breathable but it's still wet inside", yup, your clothes get wet when you sweat even if you're not wearing a jacket. Breathable doesn't teleport sweat away.
But the difference between highly breathable and not is huge. Epsieclaly when you're exerting yourself in the cold, when you'll still sweat but you really need it away from your skin.

You can buy goretex repairs- my old altura jacket has a sleeve that's about 50% patches
Once the tear goes past a certain size though...
I'll just stick to buying a waterproof for fifteen quid.
I don't agree with that. I get really sweaty regardless - but with a decent breathable close fitting top layer the sweat will evaporate & keep me cool. So that's fine. The problem is with a (cheap) waterproof layer the sweat can't wick away & evaporate so you DO overheat, as sweating is what regulates body temperate. So breathability is all-important in heat control IMO. The ideal waterproof layer will be one that wicks and still allows sweat to evaporate.TBH I think people just misunderstand what it means. Breathable in low output or high output activities is also quite different. And wet it's wet, it's difficult for anything to breathe
The only jackets I've found to be waterproof and breathable in continual downpours is Paramo or something with pit zips
£120 isn't mental for technical outdoor clothing.
Have you not seen the prices of hiking jackets DezB? You'd have a stroke.
Why, are they furry?
I recently got a Vulpine Hoy Beacon waterproof jacket. Definitely more breathable than waterproofs I've had before. I'd be tempted by one of these if I hadn't just bought it.
Must resist....

This.
You might like the cut, colour(way), features or branding but there's no magic, expensive, fairy dust that affects the properties of the material.
Worst 'I just spent £120 on a small jacket' thread ever 😀 also no mention of Abigail, something is wrong here... very wrong 😯 😆
