50 or 52t, 129 Euro, I suspect you UK folks are paying even less as that's below the 130 for VAT

I've never ordered from R2-Bike, I take it they are okay to deal with?

Very much so - before the B word they were one of my preferred shops. After sales has been spot on too

Got mine the other day. DHL then parcelforce to the house. Bargain at £117 through PayPal including delivery.

This is even cheaper

Now then I wonder, do they have Sram GX 11SPD 42T versions cheap?

Yuuuurp price has dropped more on site.

Avoid UPS the brown and goldy yellow side doored courier as hidden charges are extracted once deliveredor before delivery by crooked cs team members over phone.

Thanks for the PSA - I scoured the euro sites for a deal last year at the height of the post covid boom and the best “deal” I could find was £180!!! So happy that prices are starting to settle and deals can be once again had.

As much as I rate slick gear shifts, no way I would pay more than £80'ish for a new cassette.

BONKERS even knowing that they must be tooled very meticulously compared with say a stem.

Thanks, one plus an XX chain ordered for the spares box.
After my memory of how much I paid for an eagle 12spn chain in lockdown (still worth it to avoid damaging the rather more expensive cassette) I’m keen to go back to my old habits of buying spares whilst cheap(er) rather than paying through the nose for spares “on demand”.

What’s the situation with duty etc on these?

I've ordered 2 at different times. No extra to pay for me, YMMV.

Just don't use the ups option. They're thieving ****s.

Bought a GX cassette and chain and together came to less than the import tax threshold of £135.

My current cassette on my Scalpel has had 3 chains already so might get another chain's worth of use before it needs replacing.

Thanks op for the heads up.

I've read the guidance and it's not explicit, does anyone know if you pay duty only on the value above £135 or, if you breach the £135 value you pay duty on the whole amount?

GX cassette, chain & chainring comes to £141ish. 😬

(Great PSA, thank you, been eeking out a cassette for ages...)

My understanding is on the whole amount. Never pushed my luck and always made sure I'm bellow the amount

Hmmm, my order was £158, I didn’t think about tax as assumed it was all included these days.
What taxes am I likely to get hit with - VAT plus £12 customs charge? It’s clear as mud

Is the 52 too big to work with some set ups? Planning a Shimano build but need a Sram style cassette.

Whatgoesup - In theory your order cost plus postage fee, plus VAT, plus courier admin fee, plus import duty (4%??)

Great PSA @honourablegeorge, thank you.

Ordered a XG1150 cassette yesterday and after thinking about it ordered another today. €82 delivered and hopefully no additional charges - I used r2-bike in June for a <€125 order and didn't have anything extra to pay then, so fingers crossed.

GX Cassette is being prepared to be delivered by Parcelforce this morning so interested if any vat to pay given it was 0% on the invoice. Order was €112 including delivery.

Arrived in the post yesterday, 4 days after ordering. £95.70 delivered, no extra charges.
First time I've used R2 since Brexit, and definitely won't be the last.

How did you get it for that price? I picked the cheapest shipping option and it was just above £100.

Mine was £98.64 using PayPal’s exchange rate I think.

PayPal’s exchange rate

There's the problem. Paypal are profiting by offering an exchange rate that's a few % higher than the true market rate. I think what they offered me was £98 something too.

What you want is to use a debit or credit card that uses the Mastercard base rate - which is about as good a rate as you'll find. Halifax Clarity used to be my one of choice, but right now I'm using a Chase Debit card for pretty much everything whilst they're offering 1% cashback.

Same as paying for anything abroad. Always pay in foreign currency (with an appropriate low-rate credit card) and never accept the exchange rate they offer on the card machine/atm.

£95.69 paying with a Nationwide Select Card that is charge free and uses the Visa spot rate. You get rinsed on PP and cards that charge a fee.

Yep I was rushing and realised as soon as I hit pay that it wasn’t the best way - oh well, it’s only a couple of quid and still a lot better that £150 ish.

I use PayPal credit and although the exchange rate is not the best, there are no other charges and I get 4 months interest free.

Might look into a card that gets me a better exchange rate as I can see me buying most - if not all - of my bike components from now on from abroad (up to the £135 tax free limit).

The Eagle has landed (sorry)!

Got my order today with no extra charges. The box that the cassette came in is huge!

Realised I don't have a SRAM Eagle tool so will need to buy one of them.

Just checked my current GX chains and they're both looking like they've plenty of wear yet but better to have a spare chain and cassette whilst they're cheap(er).

Tranquility Base here as well. Eagle just landed and no charges.

I notice the customs declaration on show in the plastic document wallet only states the value but no VAT breakdown.

GX Cassette, XX01 chain, Rockshox bleed kit and SRAM butter ordered, total EU187 = £164 appeared my my CC.

Letter from Parcelforce today - total of £45 to pay - £31 VAT, £3 customs duty and £12 "clearance fee". And it won't be delivered until next week now. Thank you Brexit.

Total is therefore £211, and ordering the same stuff from UK suppliers would have been £248 so a "bit" cheaper but not much. Lesson learned about keeping below £135 in the future!

Both my orders now arrived - each complete with free Haribo AND waterbottle (just to one-up Wiggle). 11-sp cheapskate here, not 12-sp flash-dan:

Order #1: €104,56 (£91.64) XG1150 cassette plus ESI Extra Chunkys

Order #2: €97,84 (£86.22) XG1150 cassette plus PC1130 chain

No additional charges I'm aware of.
