You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Last couple of rides I’ve done, with HRM and phone connected, both of about 5 hours, it’s shown 0% for the last couple of hours but still worked fine and with no battery warning. It’s super annoying that the display indicator calibration has gone so off, as you’ve no idea what you’ve got left.
if anyones after something similar* with really long battery life, I get a reported 26 hours tracking on my instinct solar, the only long ride I did is 18 (mostly fairly bright) hours and it was showing 45% battery at the end.
*doesn't have nav

I have been googling. Some people report success by running the unit completely empty (so it turns itself off), plugging in then doing a hard reset. Leaving afterwards it to fully recharge.
I'm trying it now, with the screen on full brightness to accelerate the process.
Are these maps coming to the Edge Explore? https://road.cc/content/tech-news/garmin-announces-improvements-edge-gps-computers-284259

Yeah its the nav that is critical. I have a Fenix Pro 6S with scary long battery life if I just want tracking (and a very basic app) but I use my Explore to plot up new routes etc.
@ransos - thanks for this - be interested in how you get on.

No worries. I'm doing some long rides later this week so ping me at the weekend and I'll give you an update.
For reference mine works out at about 10% battery use every hour. That's using nav and with a Bluetooth HRM.

That tallies with my use, Ant+ HRM, I often forget to turn off BT and leave the phone connected. I think the key bit is turning the screen brightness down to reduce battery use.
Drops in temperature and/or use of Navigation tend to increase the burn rate IME.
The best thing you can do is carry a powerbank if you're out for a long time or worried about the battery life.
Can you create a route on strava or garmin connect and send it via Bluetooth to the device as a gpx and not have to have a computer, I can do it on my watch via WiFi but I notice the edge explore doesn't have WiFi thanks

Yes. Send .gpx file from Strava, Komot, OS maps etc to Garmin Connect. Save and click send to device (and select the device you want). Make sure the device is paired by bluetooth and when it next sync's it will send over and you can find it as a Saved Course.
Nice one thanks , now to ponder purchase lol

Not sure you can send directly via Bluetooth. Mine is connected to the internet via my phone, so it pulls routes from Strava if I use the widget for it. Or, if I star the routes on Strava it pulls them automatically whenever the device syncs which it does via phone. End result is the same though - you don't have to connect it to a computer to get routes on and off it.

Yes you can, if the gpx file is being sent from Garmin Connect (as above). Do it all the time whilst away with the van and no wifi or computer.
Yes. Send .gpx file from Strava, Komot, OS maps etc to Garmin Connect...
Alternatively, download the Komoot app from Garmin Connect IQ Store onto your Garmin device and access any tours you've planned or saved in Komoot.

+1. It's a bit of a faff from RWGPS - download the route from the website, upload to the Garmin connect website (not app), open the app then send to the device. Then do it all again because I downloaded a FIT rather than GPX file. But it does work.
Battery life on mine seems to have been getting worse, but last time out I noticed it seemed to stay at 0 for a good while. Tested it yesterday by fully charging it, then set it recording and navigating with everything on. It lasted 11 hrs 23 mins, the last 5 1/2 hours had the battery indicator at 0%. I'm going to try the hard reset today to see if that helps. How the hell the gauge can be so far off is beyond me!
I dithered, forgot and missed the deal lol ah well I didn't really need one yet
Thanks @frogstomp for that PSA 👍🏻 Also ordered a outfront mount for £14.95 .

Right. Following the reset, it now turns off shortly after reaching 0%, as you would expect. However, it shows 100% before it's fully charged. If I ignore it and leave it plugged in for a few hours, battery life seems much better. I did a four hour ride today with nav, phone and hrm connected. Finished with 56% left indicating about eight hours on a full charge. Which seems pretty good.
