Stockport council are planning to close the Aqueduct at the bottom of Marple locks for up to 6 months to carry out works. This is bloody annoying because I use it on my commute to avoid having to drop down to the river and back up - I also use it on night rides and I know that other groups do so too, e.g Stockport Clarion. I hope they get the work completed quickly rather than closing it then not touching it till next spring!

Just a bump for the afternoon crowd (who may be skiving off early as its a bank jolly weekend).
Bugger 🙁 That is going to make one of my loops a bit annoying now. Better it gets fixed over winter though, than summer when it's busy.
Greg, mail me for alternatives 🙂

The Aqueduct is finally closed (as of yesterday, Tues 25th Nov) while they carry out the work (repointing the stonework). Apparently it's expected to be closed for 12 weeks!

Ta, I missed this first timee round.
I'd forgotten about this, thanks.
Canal now seems to be open again at the aqueduct but there's now new works further south between Marple and Disley. Word is you can get through without much hassle if you just bypass the fencing
