My aging Trail Cross shoes are on their last legs, which led me to buying a replacement pair. I settled on the Trail Cross XT. Thought I'd share as they were at a good price. There's other Five Ten shoes also in the sale.
Cheers.
Was half-interested in the XT as a summer hike a bike shoe when my Vaude Moabs are hot, however no good if I'd have to wear waterproof socks in summer:
The big mesh panelling across the toe area and down the sides lets a lot of water in. Where some shoes are OK with the puddle splashes and wet grass / undergrowth, the XT’s aren’t really designed to keep it out and from the first puddle splash they get wet.
I have a pair of Shimano GR9's for winter. I got these for big summer days in the Scottish hills where you will get wet feet the first river crossing you do (unless you're one of them crazy folk who either take their shoes and socks off or puts plastic bags on their feet at every river crossing). At least this way my feet have a chance of drying whilst riding.
I also don't tend to suffer from cold hands and feet unless it's properly wet and cold. Just hoping they fit 🤞
Some good stuff in there, almost made me buy another pair of freeriders til I remembered I already have an unopened set spare upstairs! Good share though, especially since it's not all for people with massive feet
@bikesandbots, a few questions if you dont mind;
- are the vaude moab grippy? i've had my eye on the 'Moab Mid STX' for a few years.
- True to size
- is the tongue gusseted, how far up are they waterproof
- how chunky is the mid sole, i prefer to feel the pedals
- is the inner sole removable
thanks in advance, in stock on amazon for a far better price than last time i looked

letting water in and out is a good thing not a bad thing.
i've a bunch of bike shoes and the only decent ones are my spec 2fo's clips which allow water to drain out (but also in). all the others become a sqidgy watery fungus breeding foot bucket after a wet ride.
i had teh 510 access shoes (on which the above addidas appears to be based) and loved them. they also let water out and were my flat pedal bike shoe of choice for wet days.
I have the moab mids, they are really good for winter riding.
I find them plenty grippy enough, not quite as much as my 5-10's but more than enough for playing around.
The tongue is gusseted, up to just around the velcro strap.
Midsole is fairly solid but i can still feel the pedals, would say they are slightly thicker that the trailcross, and yes you can take the insole out.
One major improvement i made, based on a recommendation from here was to replace the laces with some bungee lock laces, as they make them a huge amount easier to put on and take off
thanks @grahamt1980, i've added them to my amazon basket £116, seems a good price from memory, plenty of stock so may drop a little more, or go back upto £180 like the size9
The main thing I've taken from this is that you can now get the trailcross shoes in YELLOW! At least in the LT and XT variants. Happy days.
A couple of pairs of Freeriders ordered (one for riding, one for general pottering about duties).
Ta OP.
Worrying stuff...that website suggests I should be a UK size 8.5 for my normal UK size 10 feet for Adidas shoes.
My previous 510 Approach shoes were UK size 10 as are my current Adidas trainers.
I wouldn't go smaller than normal. I think i was either the same or up half a size depending on the version. Am 9 normal shoe and have size 9 of the new style trailcross (normal low ones)
Anyone know the difference between Trailcross XT and LT?

My new shoes arrived today, sizing is right for my size nine feet. The sole feels stickier than my older trail Cross shoes and feel similar to my Five Ten / Adidas Swifts.
I've not read anywhere that there is knobbly foam bits that grip your heels, they seem to work and are not uncomfortable. Could see them wearing a hole after some use.
The only bit I don't like is no laces keeper, but I can took them under the crossed laces but just doesn't look as neat.

Those are the ones I have.
On the bike, they aren't as grippy than Five Ten Trailcross, harder rubber I think. Off the bike, they're the grippiest bike shoe I've had. That combination is perfect for what I use them for - natural rides where I'm not pressing on (or doing jumps etc.) while riding, and sometimes need to push/carry up awkward terrain. Softer rubber like on my ION shoes wears too quickly when walking. They're not as grippy as hiking boots; the tread is recessed rather protruding:
I size up by 1 in UK size.
Rest has been answered already.

Not for me, I'll get cold feet wearing waterproof socks with non-waterproof shoes. Dry them out properly post-ride.
Thanks. Was in the market for a replacement to my Maltese Falcons.
