I have been mulling over some five tens but all this talk of cardboard soles has me worrying. For you with more confidence, this seems a good price.

They are like sponges in the wet and take ages to dry out. Grippy though. I prefer shimano AMs for uk riding *looks out of window*

I have a pair of 5-10 Impact Low 2's

Re. the cardboard sole - there is a cardboard sole liner under the insole, but nothing wrong with that is there?

Would'nt stop me from buying another pair, as they are amazingly grippy on good flats.

My mate actually removed the cardboard after it broke up when he put them through the washing machine and has been using them with just the insole with no probs.

Happy Riding! 😀

Look at Teva-The Links shoes. I had 5-10's but much prefer these!!

My 5 10 free riders have been in the washing machine twice this week with no problems.

I've no doubt they go in the washing machine but how do they fair in the tumble dryer?

A few mates wear 5:10's and some of them do look like corrective orthopedic shoes.

For that reason I'd look elsewhere.

I've got the Baron's and they fit my broad feet brilliantly, stiff soles, really grippy and comfortable. I paid full price for them a few months ago and so long as they last well (they show no signs that they won't so far) I'd happily do so again. Oh and they look like regular skate-ish trainers, definitely not in the orthopaedic category

I don't put them in the tumble, just leave them on a radiator all night.

My old Impacts were a bit crap frankly- very clumpy and clumsy feeling (what's the point in thin pedals when you're riding in platform shoes?) and other than the sole very cheaply made, they fell apart after 1 winter. Like Tesco shoes.

But I decided to try again with the Freeriders. They don't feel so much like foot anaesthetic, and they hold less water, so that's helped. And I blasted half a bottle of Grainger's shoe waterproofer at them, which also helps. They're pretty good- not as good as the old Shimano AM40 but you can't buy those any more 🙁

+1 for:

look like corrective orthopedic shoes

Does it really matter what they look like though?

Performance on the bike is surely the main thing - IMO 🙂

On a similar note. Freerider Pro Danny Mac for 57 quid at free flow bikes.
